Is the New Board Slower?

Someone posted that they thought the new version of the forum was a bit slow. Can I get some opinions from a few people on the relative speed you're seeing?

It seems at least as fast as usual to me, but I'm just me. One thing that could be slowing it down, maybe, for some people is that we are using compression to make the pages smaller when they are sent - but this could (maybe?) being slowing down on the other end if your browser has to decompress them.

When I look at the stats on the server, all is well. We have been re-indexing the search data for the last 3+ hours and that's still going on, so maybe that's tanking performance on our end a little bit.

Bottom line, I would like to find out what you folks think of the speed of the board today.

I run on a 36.6 k modem I have found that it loads and runs the exact same as it the last version did.

I don't notice a change, Manu - it always ran at different speeds for me. I'm on webtv and don't know if this would make a difference or not, though.
I love what you guys are doing, by the way!! Keep up the good work.

I only get 28.8 because of the phone lines in my area but it seems to be about the same speed as before or maybe just slightly faster.

I noticed the first major flaw though...I can't make the little frog sticking his tongue out anymore. It comes up as the smilie face sticking out his tongue...just not the same.


I'm so bummed out right now....

I think it is going just fine. It has been loading pages in under 4 seconds for me, and that is damn good.

Uh oh. Mine is slower and I have also noticed that after I post a reply, when I go back to the general page it doesn't update automatically like it did before. I have to refresh to get the latest screen. Is that happening to anyone else?

I talk to a few people who don't post on the boards...they said to me , "WHOA, I went to the board, did you see the changes?"

I hadn't. I went....and it is a lot slower for me, and they said the same. I don't know. It looks great though. Just starting to tick me off cause of my speed. Not your fault, just more to load.

I have an ISP/LAN connection, and the board seems to mostly be going slower for me. Periodically, it will speed up to about where it was before, but then it will slow to a crawl again. This bugs.

It has been faster for me, but only a bit faster than it was at it's best before.

My connection rate and the time of day always made a big difference in response times, so I can only saay thatt t this time of day, at a connection speed of 33,600 bps it's as fast as itt everr was before at a connection of 49,400 bps (which is the best my phone lines will allow when conditions are perfect.)

I can try turning off the compression and seeing if that makes a difference for those users who are seeing a slow down. I want to let the search indexing finish first - which may take a few more hours (or days at this rate!) Stay tuned, everyone!

I was just going to say, I posted using the frog so what are you people talking about? Guess you JUST put it back.
Can you change the color of them? The just isn't the same in pale yellow.

As for speed, no problem for me at all. Same speed as always.

Slower

I'm on a cable modem at home and on a T3/Lan at work... seems slightly slower at both places - not MUCH slower but enough to notice...

Probably because of the extra features that it needs to check for?
