is it a trilogy now? it better not be a fucking trilogy. it's not even a 300 page novel. i will hurt somebody if it's a goddamned trilogy.
It is going to be a trilogy, but they're also going to use some stuff from the appendix of LOTR, so they're drawing from more than just The Hobbit.

The "truest" film adaptation I ever saw was "Brideshead Revisited". Even plus hours of television for a 200-page novel.

It's cynical yet genius move. They're gonna make their money easily with the first part. Possibly in the first two weeks. After that everything is pure profit. Even if the movies suck people will still go see parts 2 and 3 and it's all gravy for the studio and Jackson continues to get carte blanche with his movies.
Hey, have you watched "The Hunt for Gollum"? It's a YouTube video that some people made a few years ago with some backstory taken from the LOTR appendix. It's about ten minutes long, and pretty decent for a no budget hobby sorta thing. The only bad part is the horrible looking Gandalf, but what are you gonna do?
Anyway, you should check it out.

They'll stop after Hobbit. There's no chance that they will ever get the rights to The Silmarillion.

Doing it with Hunger Games, too. They already said Mockingjay was gonna be two parts even though the book is no longer than the first two.
Yeah, they'll milk the shit out of Hobbit, but they'll never get the rights to Silmarillion as long as Christopher is alive.

Twilight is just horrible however you slice it.
I understand why they made Deathly Hallows a two part thing though. The cut a lot out after the 3rd movie and needed to connect a lot of dots.
Piss off! It doesn't have the same impact as Tolkien's other works, but that's only because his son compiled it. The characters and mythos are still there.
It is boring, though.

and yet they didn't do that at all.
and i'm still kinda pissed about all that. especially dumbledore's back story. they pretty much ignored it completely except when they absolutely couldn't without completely changing the story. it was total bullshit.

They tried. Their biggest mistake was not giving JK more creative control. It was her world and they didn't let her run it.
I'd really like her to write a biography of sorts for a lot of her characters. I know that there's Pottermore, but in all honesty, Pottermore is sort of pointless.
