Is the feedback function broken... again?

I mean the "Contact"-tab in the user profile, where you can send feedback to a user that they will receive by mail

I tested it eight hours ago, but nothing shows up.

Another author sent me one as a test a few weeks ago, it took something like 3-5 days to show up in my inbox.

Yep, I've also noticed comments take at least a day to post. I think pretty much everything outside of the forums is reviewed before it's posted or sent.

So, every day since starting this, I've been sending myself a message through the feedback function. None of them ever arrive. Curiously, if someone starts a conversation with me in the forum, the notification for that arrives in my email inbox instantly.

So, I guess it's safe to say that the story side feedback function to contact an author is, indeed, broken again.

I've just sent myself a test message. Will report back if/when it comes through.

Mayhaps you might per chance try sending each other messages, you know, just in case, the system somehow possibly doesn't let you talk to yourself.

Can't think of a valid reason to implement something like that but, sure, I just sent him a test message.

I sent myself a test message the day I saw this and still haven't gotten it. But I did get one from someone else on the 9th.

There's almost exactly a 24 hour lag - my test message, and one from someone else, sent about five minutes later.

So Feedback works, with a lag, which suggests to me some kind of server clock.

Well, as I've already wrote, I sent myself a feedback-message a day for the entire week since starting this thread.
And, yesterday, ONE of those messages actually showed up in my inbox. Curiously, it's the second message I sent about eight days ago. None of the other messages showed up.

So... I'm not sure about there just being a delay.

The issue is, though, how do you find out which server the message needs to go through delays the message? I have an email account in Australia, but I gave zero idea how a message gets from Lit to me.

You might have a longer path with more blocks, who knows?

Still never got the one I sent to myself either. Nothing in my spam box. I've been checking that every day as well.

I mean... what does it matter? As I already said, I sent a message each day for a week, and only the second one arrived... and only eight days later. That's not something you explain away by calling timezones.

Since one of the test messages arrived, there also shouldn't be some kind of SPAM filter present that prevents people from sending messages to themselves, clogging up the queue.

I sent myself two feedback emails, one when I was logged in, and one when I was logged out. The one sent when I was logged in arrived within a few hours. The other one has yet to arrive, though it has only been about 24 hours.
At a minimum, I think the email server deserves a reboot.

You've missed my point. It could be filters anywhere in that pipeline of Lit to you. You've assumed the problem is with Lit. It could be anywhere. And I said nothing about time zones, I mentioned server cycles, not time zones.

People send test messages all the time, to see if email systems work.

For what it's worth, my test came through 23 hours after I sent it. So, I'd suspect they just queue up on the server through the day, then eventually make it through the queue and get sent. If that is the design, then it's working well. If they're supposed to be real time, then the server or service is in need of a reboot.

I do agree with the poster above who mentioned that the block could be anywhere in the pipeline and for those getting nothing, make sure you go into your email client/ISP provider and add the Lit domains to your safe senders list.

For those of you who sent yourself multiple tests - that is the kind of things an email client or ISP watches for and will get them blocked or sent to your spam folder, especially if there was little or no variation in the subject line or body.

That is a good observation.
