u know what, i did a little research..and baby, tantra
is just ritualistic sex ! it's just another way to get
this nirvana ! but, ya know....it's not really all that

If I understand your post correctly -- and I'm by no means sure that I do so -- you think that some entrepreneurs are trying to profit from a small part of a religious system that is not, by any means, limited to sex.

Well, yes they are. But no one needs to spend good money on this. Some solid research in a good library will give many people the information they need to try and put the ideas into practice. An understand of the culture that it came from is also a good idea.

And it isn't just "ritualistic sex." It is much more profound: a union of spirit and body, in which a perfect balance is achieved. It isn't as easy, or as slight, as it might look.

I read an article in the Yoga magazine I subscibe too
about the westernization of Tantra and how the true meaning
of tantric sex is being distorted.

If one were truly interested in that topic or any other topic coming out of the east..or any other direction for that matter.. I am sure that they would seek out the purest and truest form. I know I would, but that's just me.

My understanding of tantra which is very limited...it is a ritual that is the passing of sperm to the vagina. The penis was actually pounded in such a way that proved to be very painful. It was then reinvented many moons later as a form of spiritually connecting with your partner that is
apparently better than an orgasm. If you could believe there to be anything better. Perhaps chocolate. No...orgasm...

This thread actually has some interesting potential. Let me throw out what little I happen to know about this subject and see if anyone can add to it.

First, "tantric sex" is really just an aspect of tantric yoga. It was and still is a Hindu/Indian culteral discipline designed to encorporate physical fitness and mental well-being. It promotes voluntary, as opposed to autonomic, control (or mind over matter) of your body. This includes being able to lower your cardiac cycle rate, blood pressure, controlling integumentary responses to external stimulus (imagine being able to walk naked through the snow without feeling chilly AND not suffering from frostbite), etc.

On the sex side of the teachings, men who master the discipline are supposedly able to have continuous orgasms WITHOUT ejaculating, thus maintaining their erections and therefore can "fuck" non-stop for hours (Hmmmmm...maybe there is some devious plot afoot). It also teaches couples how to have multiple orgasms while remaining motionless, obviously while still connected at the crotch.

Anyway, it all sounds like good, clean fun to me and if there are people teaching it to us poor, uneducated "Westerners" for profit...well, who really profits?
