Is sex a human need or right?

Without sex, no reproduction, no population. Sounds like a need of survival to me.

Are you speaking individually or about the group?

Individually, no. As caligula pointed out, it's rather necessary for the group.

I believe in the Old Testament, under Jewish laws, the withholding of sex by either party was one of the few legitimate grounds for divorce. That makes it sound like a right, doesn't it?

Sounds like Ish is trying to decide whether to blow this month's welfare check on Propecia or Viagra.

At this point, why does it even matter?

OK Then there constitutes a legitimate defense for rape? Especially within the constraints of matrimony.

Now you know where I'm going with this. :D

I'm with someplace here... well, not physically with her... but with what she's saying... It's a RIGHT damn it!!

Grounds for divorce is a great deal different from justification for rape.

Then answer the obverse. :)

Not if it's a 'right' or a 'need'.

Are you an animal or a human?

Consensual sex is far different from rape, which completely disregards the choice of one of the parties.

Well, I'm glad I avoided Ishmael's silly little illogical trap by answering it was neither a right nor a need.

So it's neither a 'right' or a 'need' then?

Ye gods, but you're even more full of shit than usual. Grounds for divorce means you have the legal recourse to separate and look for sex elsewhere. It doesn't guarantee that you'll find it.

You avoided it by your beliefs.

I'm sorry, did any of my posts mention divorce? I think you're in the wrong thread. Search on *bratcat* or any number of others.

Then let's compare it to the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness (which is a pretty apt comparison). You have the right to pursue it, not the right to take it from others.

It is a need, but in the case of some types of sexuality (particularly psychopathic sexuality and fetishes) it is not neccessarily a right.

I think Ishmael's point is this:

If it's a right, then is it not someone else's obligation to provide it? What good is a right if it can't be enforced against someone else?

I don't think its necessarily a trap but just an open ended discussion on the nature of man and sex.

Certainly everyone has the right to sex, everyone has the biological need/urge to have sex, but free will determines how and with who we persue this with. Humans can control their behavior if they choose to. If they choose not too they have to be accountable for their actions.
