A man attributes his long life to abstinence.

I think 'blame' is a better word choice here.

HONG KONG (Reuters) - A 107-year-old Hong Kong villager, who still enjoys an occasional smoke, has attributed his longevity in part to decades of sexual abstinence, a newspaper said on Sunday.

"I don't know why I have lived this long," Chan Chi -- one of Hong Kong's oldest people -- was quoted as saying in the South China Morning Post during an annual feast for the city's elders.

"Maybe it has to do with the fact that I have lived a sex-less life for many years -- since I was 30," said Chan, a widower whose youthful bride perished during the Japanese invasion in World War Two.

Chan, from Hong Kong's less built-up New Territories hinterland, was pictured looking sprightly and eating heartily at the banquet.

A former chef, he said a low-fat diet and regular dawn exercises had helped him fight off the ravages of old age.

But the centenarian, who's had no difficulty living a monastic existence for nearly 80 years, admits the pleasures of tobacco have been harder to resist.

"Now I want to quit," he was quoted as saying of his decades-long cigarette addiction. "Maybe the government should ban cigarette sales so I can give it up," he added.

*snort!*

My husband's grandmother lived to be about the same age. Yep. Nearly 107. She had thirteen kids along the way--and I seriously doubt she remained celibate even after her husband passed away. So there goes that theory.

This is what comes of not knowing anything about genetics

I'm gonna havta say...no fucking way. Let me die young and satisfied.

Although I must say my fathers family is very long lived...and apparently they thought God was speaking directly to them when she said go forth and populate the earth. ;)

It might be worth it- but who among us would be capable of it?

I'm not raising my hand!

Seems like I'm well on my way down that road... *snicker*

My great-grandmother lived to be 106... and all 6 of my grandparents are in their late 80's, starting into the 90's this year... I just want to live long enough to love my wife and kids, and spoil a grandchild... Even if I could... sex or no... I don't want to make it to 80, let alone 90 or 100+! Does that sound as bad as I think it does??

There was a man
who never strayed
He never drank
He never smoked
Nor even kissed a maid
When he up and passed away
Insurance was denied
They claimed he never really lived
Therefore he never really died.

I doubt if the guy is really 107-years-old. A long time without sex just makes it seem that long.

Yay! I'm going to live forever!

Wait, so I'm not going to live forever? I'm going to die young?

I doubt it, but if he believed it? Who knows.

Hmmmm,

My Great Grandfather lived to reach 94 before he died. He was killed when he stepped in frnt of a New York Transit Authority Bus. He was distracted, he was coming home from his G/F's house. (She was 64.)

As far as I'm concerned, if I have to live without sex to live a long life, well then I'll die young.

Nice one, Jubal :rose: Reminds me a bit of Shel Silverstein!

ONE OF THE SYSTEMS OF THE BODY IS THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM. THIS MAN SEEMS TO HAVE FAILED IN THE AREA OF REPRODUCTION. GIVEN HIS AGE, HE WILL DIE BEFORE TOO LONG AND HE WILL NOT HAVE THE CHILDREN TO CARRY ON HIS LINEAGE. IN A FEW YEARS, THE YOUNG STUD WHO KNOCKED UP NUMEROUS WOMEN OF HONG KONG WILL HAVE LIVED LONGER, EVEN IF HE DIED AT A RELATIVELY YOUNG AGE.
