Is it the board, or have I been dull lately?

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.

Or something...

No, it's me. I'm boring and apathetic. I think I need an injection of semen, stat.

It's you.

While you're here being boring, Tortoise, have you ever made edamame? I promised a friend that I'd make him some (if he brought them over) and the only instructions seem to be "boil for 10 minutes, drain, salt, serve.

It can't be that easy, can it?

It can, and it is. Enjoy.

ty ty bluemuse! Is there a preferred type of salt? My gut reaction would be sea salt, but my guts have been known to be wrong on many occassions!

Hello Tortoise man. Bought any good cheese lately?

My cheesey purchases have been curtailed lately, as my beloved bakery/cheese shop changed hands yet again (this is the third time), and pared their menu down to a shadow of its former greatness, the main casualty being my favorite Farmhouse Cheddar and Fruit plate. I stopped going there for weeks as a protest, before I figured that it's still the best place in town. Oh well. I had my eye on a little wedgy of manchego yesterday morning after my walk, but I didn't buy it. Maybe tomorrow, for weekend snacking.

That's how I've done it, cept I sometimes shock them in ice water to stop the cooking and set the color. Excellent with cold noodles.

I just use normal table salt. Sea salt might be nice, though.

Many thanks, Bluemuse! Maybe I'll do one and taste it, just to make sure the sea salt doesn't overpower it. Thank you *so* much!

tortoise,

You've always been dull. Try Ginsu. Stay up all night surfing channels until you see the infomercial. Buy several sets on a high-interest credit card.

C'mon, fight the tedium. Live on the edge!

Those are soybeans, right? They're yummy. Kinda like Lima beans, only much firmer with a nutty flavor and good texture.

I keep hearing that they're fantastic! I'm really looking forward to giving them a try. My friend who asked for them *hates* all vegetables (except lettuce hidden under a mound of croutons, mushrooms, cheese and ranch dressing), so if he likes 'em they gotta be good!

Whole Foods has the best selection. And sea salt is the yummiest. Fluffier flakes than regular table salt.

Soy is a glorious product, RR! And oh so appropriate since as of monday i'll be dealin' with farmers! Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaw!

Mischka, I'm a salt *freak* My hubby had to convince me last time we were in CM to put back the $6 teeny tiny jar of french sea salt. The only thing that worked was reminding me that I hate the French! lol I'm thinking since it's the end of the season (according to a website I found) that I'll probably have to get frozen pods. I think I read that the difference between them isn't too striking since you only eat the beans, not the pod. Did you find that to be true?

Yeah, Nora, they're not very "vegetabley", if that makes any sense. I like em a lot. VERY filling, too.

It's International Soy Day, Rose. I'd wear a ribbon, but then mouse would hit me with a sack of beans.

Yeah, don't eat the pods, just slurp out the beans. More about texture than flavor in my opinion.

Laurel, I wish I had more time tonight. I'd make you a soybean ribbon you could wear with pride! *grin*

Y'all are getting me way too hyper to try these! lol Pyper? Wanna come over Saturday and scarf some with us? :D

Sorry, I can't drive to Texas on Saturday, I have a paper to write. :D
