I have a unused (and don't plan to use it on my hair anytime soon) box of hair dye and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's safe (or painless) to dye my pubic hair.

I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of hair dyes have strong chemicals in them and the skin in the pubic region is particularly delicate.

I should think that if you used the same sort of precautions used to keep hair dye out of your eyes to keep it away from the mucus membranes of the pubic area it would be reasonably safe.

Magic Shave (tm) and other depilitories also contain harsh chemicals and there are many here who use Magic for pubic hair removal.

I wouldn't even give it a go.

Read the box very carefully, I'm pretty sure you'll see that it states not to use the dye on the eye area, ie; eyebrows. Why would you risk placing a hair dye on your pubic region? Think about it, if you do react to it, the sun very rarely gets to the area to help "fix" the problem.

Ultimately, the decision is yours, but think of the pain you'll go through should you react.

um yea i have to agree dont try it, just deal with the color it is, or shave it, alot safer

I gotta ask

Why do you want to color your hair down there for????

I would imagine if you used something like the dye used on eyebrows or eyelashes it would be ok. (Something you would have to get at a beauty supply) But ummm why do you want to?

I say go for it, but use something like punky color. I've dyed and bleached many people's pubes, (yes, including my own) and had no adverse reactions. HOWEVER, if you do bleach, have aloe ready, and only let it set for 5 mins at a time, then rinse, and apply the aloe. do this untill it's light enough to dye. I use punky color, because it's the only thing that doesn't burn my scalp.

if you're leery, do a patch-test. put a tiny bit of the color on, and see how your skin reacts to it. I've not had a problem with it, nor have those I've dyed, BUT everyone's different, so you might react, but you may not. do you dye other body hair? have you reacted adversely to it? use your own judgement here.

It wouldn't be smart as the chemicals could cause irritation or could cause serious damage.:(

Watch it!

Watch for bleach or peroxide in the dye, but otherwise I think the dyes out there are pretty safe nowadays. Just use it for LESS than the amount of time the box specifies, because pubes are quite the different texture than the hair on your head.
