Is it my idea or is there a bit overlapping in stories categorization?

First of all let me introduce myself. I'm a male 52 years old pervert from Buenos Aires Argentina that had always written erotica and sex stories since I have memory. I'm a native Spanish speaker but have had the blessing of somehow good English language education. As a matter of fact I do work in written and oral English and that keeps my language skills kind of alive. I know I have LOTS of grammar problems in my writing and that refrains me for being confident to yet post my stories here.

Reading some threads in this forum I've found out that several story's ideas have something in common with plots I have already in mind or have already written (sorry still in Spanish). I'm planning to publish some story about a post apocalyptic scenario with non-human creatures and some non-cons sex.

So... Where should I publish it? As far as I've read if there is no death then Erotic Horror stories is out of the question. But once again I have mutants and this may lead it to go to Non-Human... but I also have some Sci-Fi gadgets, and also my protagonist is not always willing (somehow reluctant) on what happens to her and that leads me to Non-Consensual/Reluctant (which was always my main fetish)

Besides tagging it I don't see any way to limit a story to just one category... and I just don't want anybody complaining about what they're reading because of a misinterpretation of the story category. I plan to give a subtle guide of what to expect inside on the few words description option, and may be also do a disclaimer at the very beginning. But once again, no sure about that.

I don't think any author wants to be deceived at the first story post receiving unfair criticism (that one that is not related to the story or how it was written but to prejudges on the category) and finding a way to correctly select your category and correctly set your reader's minds on what to expect inside, is in my humble opinion the key.

I've already contacted an Editor and am still waiting his reply. I know this is a busy time as holidays are approaching, but my anxiety is almost pushing me to dare publish directly without his counseling.

Sorry if this post does not belong here, or if this was discussed sometime ago (I've been unable to find anything related in this forum). Just in case, feel free to move it somewhere else..

Anyway I wanted the more experienced writer's opinion on the matter so I can make my mind or have an idea on how to better publish a story without limiting myself to write in a set of mind that limits my scope due to categorization.

Once again, thanks for reading me

Firstly, welcome to the AH.
In general terms, you can get all manner of guidance round here, and have a little fun with word games, etc.
2] Lit is almost multi-lingual, so it might be worth checking to see if your native tongue is an accepted medium.
3] you put your story wherever you think it's best to go. If you really have made a goo-goo of it, ask Laurel to move it or let someone suggest it (your editor may be able to advise you better).

Added to 3.

If you choose an inappropriate category, it might be put in one that is more suitable.

We have discussed what is appropriate to each category several times before.

There are trump categories - themes that overrule any other choice of category.

Incest is one. If there is any incest in the story, that's the appropriate category.

Gay Male and Lesbian Sex are two other important categories. Readers don't expect Gay or Lesbian anywhere else, except possibly as an aside in an otherwise normal story.

Loving Wives is a minefield. Whatever story you think is appropriate for that category, there will be some who will comment that it isn't right for them.

The easiest way to sort out for yourself what fits in each category is to read a sample of stories on the Top List for each one.

Taking the risk of sounding like a jerk, I will try to address your concerns.

From your writing it is clear that English is a second language. While I have no doubt that your English is worlds better than my Spanish, I would recommend an editor that has English as a primary language if you are going to publish in English.

Sci-fi seems to fit your idea best, but tags ARE the best way to let readers know what they are in for.

and I just don't want anybody complaining about what they're reading because of a misinterpretation of the story category.

It's going to happen. No matter how well you clarify, people like to complain and they will. They will insult you and rip your writing to shreds. If you are going to put your art out for the world to see, the first step is to make sure your skin is thick enough to handle people attacking your art and you.

From what your ideas sound like, I would highly recommend an intro paragraph letting your readers know what they are in for. Make sure you mention any Non-Con and Non-Human.

I am an amateur but I have been around this site for awhile. Good luck!

Thanks

Thank you all for your quick responses. I'll keep in mind all what you said to me and hearthfully promise not to let my anxiety win. I'll wait and be a patient good boy ;).

Regarding why do I want to publish my story in English and not in Spanish, it has to be with several facts. First one is that even when there are story focused sites in that language they have no good stories. Plots are always the same, some of their writing stinks (yes... in Spanish too) and that discourages me to publish there. Second reason is that I've been reading your site a lot during last year and found some excellent writers and really good stories. I've always dreamed about translating some of my stories and thus compare reactions here and there.

I hope my future editor won't have nightmares on my writing. I'll try to be a good student. Promise!! Maybe this leads me to improve my written English skills.. LOL.. Who knows !!

Once again, thanks

This same issue drove me crazy for a while. I've written a How-To about categorizing your stories that you might find useful.

Love Your Readers - Categories

It's not the definitive answer, but it was reviewed and contributed to by several excellent writers and by the Lit management.

Hope that helps
