Is it just me or does the new quick voting seem to be leading to people trying to move their stories up by voting the stories ahead of it down. The highest rated story is now 4.4, it used to be 4.6. Everytime one of my stories makes it on the list a slew of 1's with no comments get piled on and it sinks.

I have some good stories that are not rated under 3???

I just don't get what is going on.

I dunno...

Ratings...

You know, ever since Chyoo 2.0 came about I gave up on the rating system. Just for the fact that only the top 5 stories are actually correct. The ratings section does not work! STILL!!! But, the other day I noticed that my story A College Girl To Be was # 5 on the front page of Chyoo. Imagine my surprise! I think it's a great story, but it is only rated like 4.3... and it's # 5? WHAT! And like Jake said, the # 1 story is rated 4.4 or whatever. Crazy.

I am not sure what happens with the stories. I haven't received any feedback for other 2 months. The number of votes always climbs, but no comments. Ohwell. Maybe if Chyoo corrects the ratings section, I'll start to care again.

I think that always used to happen. Its nothing new. But I agree with Tim, there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to the order. Possibly the rating displayed is the all-time rating, but the rating that controls where the story appears is the monthly rating... or vice versa. I don't know. Just a theory.

New Record!

A new record in voting lows, I received 38 votes of 1 on my story The Neighborhood. This is a story which I consider to be among my best...

How on earth could someone rate it a 1 on all 38 threads?? How does that make any sense at all?

Also they didn't bother to give me a single constructive comment as to why my writing and editing in this story suck!!

The same thing has happened to me. When any of my stories make it on the "Top 5" list, they're bombed with 1 ratings. It doesn't get to me anyways, it's not like they're criticizing the story, they're just sabotaging it to get their own ahead. I also think, if someone actually rates a thread low for a reason, they should leave feedback to help the writer improve.

Guess it was my turn to get zapped.

Sigh.

Same story, a sprinkling of '1' ratings without comment.

Wonder who it is?

What's wrong with the ratings?

Okay, this is messed. My story went from having about 280 votes to having 368 in one day. The wierd thing is that I recieved all good ratings. All my previously unrated threads, all have 5's now. What's going on? If someone is manipulating the ratings system by bombing my story with 5's, I want no part of it, I only want honest feedback.

I've decided not to worry about the rating any more. I just keep an eye on how many times the story has been read and that lets me know that the story is well received or not. I think there are a couple of people our there right now just messing up the ratings, and with only five stories that even show in the right order it is really hard to get a read on the relative rank of stories.

Hopefully the site will get fixed at some point so we can look at the top 25 or 50 stories which will give a much better indication of what the good stories are.

Just keep writing and it will all work out in the end.

:D

Personaly, I never botheredwith the ratings. I tended to only vote for a thread that was ether really good, and leave a positve comment, or one that was really bad, and try to leave constructive crticism. I have also used it to remind authors to use {FIRST_NAME} rather than their name.

But for choosing reading material, I always go to the "Choose by Freshness" link and see what's been updated. There are some stories that have had high ratings, that I didn't care for, and some with low ratings I loved. I figure it's like movie critics. Sometimes you agree with the review, sometimes you don't.

Anywho, if anyone wants to give me some feedback, please do.

I'm a little confused by what you mean by this. Quite honestly, I don't like being asked to supply a name when reading a story. No, I don't find it any more "immersive" and well, if your story is well written, I don't need to determine who's named what to enjoy it.

I suppose authors who don't use the FIRST_NAME and LAST_NAME thingy feel the same way as I do. It's not something we "forget", it's just not worth the hassle. :)

What I meant was that I sometimes read a story with promts for a name, and someone has added a thread that gives the main character a name, by accedent I assume. The most recent example that I can think of, someone added one to Doing the Sorority that was something like, "The girls don't trust Dan" or something like that. I was like, "Dan? Who's Dan?" So I rated the thread, and sent the author the feedback to use {FIRST_NAME} since the rest of the story does.

That's what I ment.

so that's how those names work. i'll have to remember that {FIRST_NAME} thing.

Hmmm, Dan from the ancient hebrew for "judge in favor", the fifth son of Jacob whose name means "heel" or "cheat" other than that can't help you:p

I just like it because I can try alsorts of names, can't its the same for the other omninamer, but I never use my own name, just like either some rediculous thing like Johnny Bunnypants, or maybe some character out of a book

An interesting thing to try when it asks for a female name is to put something like My Bitch or My Slut in. I used to do it for games like FF7 and it would ocasionally come out with some very funny comments

Dacia

and I quote ( sorta)

ff7
Cloud-"Take care of My Bitch Barett"

ff9
Garrnet aka My Bitch-"Call me My Bitch while we're here, Stiener"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zidane-"Sara... no Samantha...no 'Rat'chel... no wait I know it My Slut!"
Freya aka My Slut. "that's right! and don't forget"
man i wish i had thought of it :D(sadened by the knowledge like things it will soon lose it's novalty:( )
