It is thought-provoking to consider what it is about Greta Thunberg that produces such extreme, negative responses. Is it because she has committed her life to a cause that she truly, deeply believes in and is trying to live her life entirely in accord with her beliefs? Does comparing the depth of her commitment to the shallowness of a life lived for superficial goals and pleasures make people so uncomfortable that they lash out rather than comtemplate the meaninglessness of their own lives? Is her strength so intimidating that people feel such a need to make fun of her in order to try to weaken her?

Certainly, it is extremely common to dehumanize people because we disagree with them. That is a huge problem in the US, and it seems to be the case around the world. But..
there is something about the immature attacks on Thunberg that seems to go beyond even that.
