Neither company would like it.

In the UK it wouldn't be illegal but the insurance premium might rise sharply because the car has been 'modified'.

Some insurers consider 'modification' for as little as sticking 'go faster' stripes on the bodywork, and that might invalidate the insurance if they weren't informed.

(The insurers thinking is that anyone who puts 'Go Faster' stripes on a car is likely to be a worse driver than someone driving a standard vehicle. What they don't say is that applying 'Go Faster' stripes shows you are an idiot and therefore a poor risk.)

It is fine. Even in California which has ridiculous restrictions. You would have to take it to a C.A.R.B certified shop to have them certify the swap.

I mean, assuming that if you're considering something like that, your warranty is already lonnnggg gone.

Depending on how old the drivetrain is, you may have some electronic management issues.

The takeover of Sunbeam killed a good car because Chrysler wouldn't allow a Ford engined product:

Two prototype and extensively modified versions of the Series I competed in the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans, but neither completed the race. Rootes also entered the Tiger in European rallies with some success, and for two years it was the American Hot Rod Association's national record holder over a quarter-mile drag strip.

Production ended in 1967 soon after the Rootes Group was taken over by Chrysler, which did not have a suitable engine to replace the Ford V8.
