Is it harder to get a story published in Gay Male?

I'm really curious if anyone else has found that the moderators reject stories submitted in the Gay Male category.

I've just recently started submitting stories, and have submitted to LW and GM. The two stories I submitted to LW were accepted almost immediately, whereas the story in GM has been rejected 3 times now for "punctuation errors". While my GM story has a lot more dialogue than the LW stories, they all contained similar errors.

Why then, is the Gay story continually rejected for something that was not a problem in the Living Wife section? Is it just a case of some moderators being more picky than others?

There is only one site editor.

Scrub through your dialogue and make sure it's correct. The site rejects poor grammar, it's got nothing to do with category. If your latest story has more dialogue and it's incorrectly punctuated, there's more to pick up on and reject.

Dialog punctuation is American style here on Lit.

"Talk talk talk," he said.

"Talk talk talk?" she asked.

"Talk talk talk!" exclaimed Jenny.

The punctuation goes inside the quotes.

I struggled to remember that, until I got it through my head that the punctuation is part of the quoted dialogue, and logically stays with it.

And they're double quotes, except for the case of a quotation in a quotation, which is set off by single quotes.

No, I haven't found it any harder to post in GM than anywhere else.

I don't think so - but sometimes you get the 'punctuation error' message when there's a different formatting problem.

Try cutting and pasting from your word processor into the text box and submitting that way, checking the preview carefully.
