Is it common for stories to be in the queue for 2 weeks?

What's the best thing to do with a story that seems to be stuck in the queue?

I submitted a story in late March. It was rejected because the editor assumed that a character was younger than 18.

I edited the story to make it clearer that all of the characters were 18+ and put in a line repeating that point and resubmitted it on March 31. It's been waiting in the queue since then — though later stories that I submitted have been published.

Does anyone have any advice? Is it better to be patient, or should I assume that the story has been forgotten, and I should delete it and resubmit it?

It’s been a rather tumultuous couple of weeks of the site; the entire system has been shaky with votes and views lost, found, challenged, etc. I might suggest you PM Laurel if the delay continues.

Unpublished story

Published my story on 28/3.
Still hasn’t got published. Not even rejecting.
No response for PM.
None on twitter either.

What a shame.

I'd delete it and resubmit it.

But to go over the basics, it says pending right? And you didn't edit the doc in between?

That's long enough to justify sending a PM (Private Message) to the submissions editor, Laurel, querying the status of the story.

Missing Feedback Comments

I hope I'm posting this in the right location. I've noticed I get quite a few notifications from Reader Feedback but when I click on them there are no current comments. Why are they missing? I do like keeping in touch with each commenter out of respect. Any way of fixing this and receiving the actual written feedback?

Thanks...Zen

I had a story that was published in the middle of all the systems problems so it's scored lower than I'd hoped. I submitted the story back in December and it was returned citing some manual writing issues that were totally my fault.

A few weeks later I re-submitted the story and it was rejected again due to what was believed to be under-age characters. I did exactly the same thing you did. I made a cast of characters and stated their ages. Again, my story was rejected. I took the time to read the exact rule that was being quoted. I read it over and over again until I understood what was being said and went thorough my story from beginning to end, looking for words and phases that had any inkling of underage anything and resubmitted again. This time it was published .

I learned that what's being said about under-age content is simply this: you cannot allude to under age sex in any shape, way, form, or fashion. It doesn't matter if you're doing back-story about what happened back in high school or a reference to any character that was underage when it happened.

I understand completely. No one will come to my house and get on me for writing it. The owners of the site are on the hook so it's their call as to who done what.
I've heard that they do scan stories for certain buzz words and they might. I have no idea how many stories they process but I know it's a bunch. I'm certain that some are going to fall through the cracks. My stories are about my experiences in life and I'm not willing to alter them that much even at the expense of ratings so I so I re-word them to make the story acceptable. I'm not a professional writer so I don't think much about how much people like or dislike them. I write for fun knowing that a few out there will appreciate them and that's ok with me. Writing is something I do to relax and put some of my memories on paper.

I'd give it a little more time seeing that the site went haywire for a bit, maybe till the end of the week. Then I send the moderator a message and inquire about the status of your story. I'm pretty sure they'll tell you what they know and tell you what your options are. Good luck with your stories.

There is already another thread with this subject:

Story remains Unpublished

I am not sure that is such a great way to handle the situation. The times in which we live - do we still slap the TV on its right, if it ain't functioning?

For the record...
I have submitted the story on 28 March. Not once edited it since then.
Have PM to Laurel.
Have PM to Manu.
Have alerted @Literotica on Twitter.
Have raised couple of messages on Forum now (including this).

Story remains unpublished still.

I'd delete it and resubmit it.

I'm having the same problem with my FLIRTER story. Submitted 4/15, still PENDING and I haven't touched it. The 'CONTACT US' still seems dead - I asked for help there twice and volunteered to help scan stories if there's a backlog. 11 days is unusually long.

Have you opened it in Pending? You might find a new note rejecting it for some other reason. You might not get a second notice that it had been rejected again. It happened to me once and the second rejection was for paragraphs that were too long after I had cleaned up the pet names that implied underage. Once I fixed that it was approved in the usal time.

I don't think Contact Us has worked for ages. Try a PM to Laurel

There's not much point offering to scan stories either - by all accounts it's all down to Laurel, the site's owner.

I know I too am in that publishing purgatory. My first story that I was trying to publish has been hung up since the 16th, tried the contact us stuff, and sent a PM but I am guessing she's busy atm.

I at least feel better knowing I'm not the only one. Now I'll go back to waiting patiently like I did the first few days.

It seems to be the new normal. A story I sent in for the covid contest on 5/11 is still PENDING --- going on 7 days. I thought contests got priority due to the small window.

Have another story that’s stuck in my pending box for few weeks. Submitted on 2 Nov. titled. Shalom.
Is there a department of efficiency around here?
