Bearing in mind that the UK gets a 'quake every once-a-flood, this is quite newsworthy. The fact that thousands stayed alive is immaterial.

We had a 5 point something a year or three ago felt round here and I was quite surprised; I realised late what it was and wondered what to do next (not having a handy helicopter, you understand). THen it stopped.

Usually they don't even bother to do that. Sometimes they have some dead time and they apologetically mention the 3.5 tremor just to say something to fill it.
