Is Dom just another word for asshole?

Not at all. Unfortunately, I think sometimes people who associate with the lifestyle online either:

1) Do not come across well; or
2) Mess up our ideas about what a true Dom/me or sub is.

I have said this before and just want to say "Two thumbs up!"

Yes, Dom only means asshole as much as you can say "Man" means asshole.

Or even woman. It depends on each person, not what they are or call themselves.

:)

i think maybe if you can't stop being a dom then you could find it hard in an online environment such as this ?

and although never won't think so the question mark does belong there its a question ;)

Keep insinuating that he's an asshole and he's gonna' get his buddy Burt to kick your butt.

Excellent point.

Another question then.

Do assholes hide behind the term Dom as justification for their behavior? I'm thinking BlkPnthr.

Nope.

Assholes are assholes.

Doms are Doms and yes, I know some submissive assholes!

:D

Ok, I just fell off my chair. :D

I think my asshole is pretty submissive.

I am right behind you!

ERrrr well, falling off the chair, that is!

I didn't even think........

*chuckles and snorts*

Like all positions of power, it is one that assholes are interested in being part of. It also lacks a significant screening process so it's easier to get into than many.

So, yes, I think the there's a higher percentage of asshole Doms than there are in the population at large.

“Well, what about the term "Alpha"?”

That has nothing to do with sexual dominance or submission. You can have a group of Doms and only one of them will be the Alpha and you can have a group of Alphas and none of them be Doms.

Seriously,

A Dom is someone who respects women and does not flaunt the power exchange.

To judge Doms and what a Dom is by the play by play on the board isn't likely to be an accurate measurement of Domliness.

You may actually know Doms in your real life and if you knew who they were, you would be pleasantly surprised at their persona.

But that is just my two cents :)

I'd be moving quick enough to get in front of EITHER of you to break the fall.

The thing about labels is they over-simplify, tempting one to stop reflecting on the subtle and diverse attributes even annoying assholes have.

I'm sure you meant to say Dom/mes didn't you? I wouldn't want to exclude women from the equal opportunity of being an asshole.

Of course I disagree with your post completely. Assholes are assholes and I find that many of them are more happy being unencumbered by the responsibilities inherent in being a Dom/me.

By the way PCG, this is a lame thread coming from you.

That is like me saying that a gay is someone who never molests children and always has nice breath. Ideally, yes but that does not always happen.
