in the "one percent?" This is from wiki:

Earners need to earn $506,000 to be in the top 1% according to the Wall Street Journal.[10]

I don't think I know anyone who earns that much. Well, there are a few possibilities among parents' friends, but no one I can confirm, and I've occasionally been introduced to someone famous who probably makes that much as a performer of one kind or another, but by and large the wealthy people I know all seem to have family money. I doubt any of them make that much on investments.

You? Do you know anyone who makes that much? What do they do in order to earn it?

Several high ranking people at my company make that and then some. I don't normally interact with them, but have been in the same meeting room with some of them over the years.

If a person has 5 million and makes 10% off of it they make 500K. A lot of people have 5 million. It's not really that much money.

Yes, but I live and work in a borough with some high incomes.

Please... the people I know are lucky to make their rent/ mortgage payment every month

With them numbers, my house is a 1 percenter for a year. Cool.

I won't ask what company, obviously, but will you tell me what sort of business it is?

According to wiki, the number of people worldwide with assets greater than $1 000 000 is 10 900 000, so yeah, one would think there are a few around. I don't know enough about this, but how difficult is it to make 10 percent on that kind of money?

NYC?

Well, you're young and live in the midwest, so you barely count as people to begin with...

You mean, household income?
I am a 1%er.

I could buy all of you bitches if I felt like it.
Union negotiations are out of control.
My brother-in-law
What does he do?
Just checking before I say anything, are we tired of the canned goods joke yet?

Never! It's a permanent meme. I'm waiting for it to go viral. Someone should go post it on /b/.

I know the operating manager of the Exxon Refinery at Baton Rouge. Does that count?

A plain old savings account will get you 3 or better. More if you're actually putting in 5 mil.
Imagine what a real investment would bring down.

I've had good years and bad years. None of my good years put me in 1% territory. If I stay alive long enough, my kids will get there the day I die.

So he can't hold a job then.

Hahaha!

No. He was lured away each time with more money and more responsibility. The company that he works for right now is actually quite happy with his work and gave him a larger position and a bigger compensation package earlier this year.

He's been steadily employed since the age of 24. He's now 57.
