I've followed a few pic threads here closely, but lately I've been wondering if there's any way to know if they are for real? When we see pics of a woman in different poses and the accompanying descriptions, how do we know if these pics are the person they're supposed to be? And especially in pics that don't show faces, what's to keep some guy from just putting up different pics off the net and claiming they are his gf...or claiming he's the girl?

There is no way to know unless you are an admin/mod-with-powers to see IP's and even that is limited. So...there ya go. No way to know. And furthermore, no way to know if someone you "befriend" is real either...it could be anyone...so how I've decided to deal with it is to just think of Lit as another type of "game board".

I may "befriend" and enjoy some interactive personalities but I will never know for sure unless we meet in the physical world and I go visit their home and all that (which is not likely to ever happen). So it's kinda like becoming "friends" with some of the characters in stories or books you read....and that is fun, too, if you keep it in perspective. They don't know about YOU either...only you do.

It's kinda funny...with some people I talk to. Periodically one or the other of us will ask....are you "so and so" and all the denials start and sometimes we laugh. Sometimes not though if one has talked a bit too freely about personal stuff. So be careful what you say. Because you never really know...but then we don't really REALLY know in real life either. I think there is more a chance of "betrayal" of sorts online because of the complete level of anonymity beyond letters typed but my experience of that has been minimal. Most show who they kinda are early and behave that way most of the time I've "known" them.

I think I had to say all this more for myself than for you. :D

You don't.

I'm afraid the internet isn't a place for proof beyond reasonable doubt.

Quoting myself from another thread here in the Darkroom...

No, I don't think so, monique. You see, in AmPics, those of us who host threads, we give out info of our personality as well as little bits and pieces of our everyday life. Combined with the photos that we post, we give to our readers a pretty accurate idea of the kind of person that we are. Because it's all in one place, in our thread, and it's easy for anybody to check us out.

....

Between all of my threads, I have over 5 thousand pages up in AmPics and over 10 thousand photos. I dare anybody to go through every word I've ever typed and every single photo I've posted and find one inconsistency.

I can understand your doubts, there have been cases where people faked or cheated. But there are several people here who are real.

Good points, everyone. I wasn't calling any one person into question. Just thinking about how easy it would be to totally do a fake job here. (Not that I'm interested in doing that.)

I agree too with the idea that in sites like this it's more about the pretend personality we see on the screen than about the real life person.

I tend to believe you here ran57gr...but I think you are the extreme exception rather than the rule. I am really who I say as well...nobody who is faking gets themselves into such trouble. But I am as distrusted as the next person by so many. Trying to protect myself/get a little breathing room, I HAVE been a bit deceptive at times...but very mild/short-term. And I suspect those clamoring the loudest to be some of the biggest deceptors around. Ah....well.

I used to be on some vanilla dating sites.

Some of the men used out of date pics or photoshoppedd pics or just plain lie about things.

I got into the habit of keeping a notebook with their net name/real name and odd bits of info we had talked about.

I would ask questions and then a couple of weeks later ask the same thing again. Many people were not consistant with their answers.

Of course some were, out of those I met they were 'nice but dull'

I met Andante on alt.
He gave quite a bit of info in his profile and when we spoke he had a far better memory than I did for details of things said.
It never occured to me he may not be who he said he was.

Besides, once I heard his voice I just wanted to fuck him ;)

I do think that some of the people on this site are for real. They come to this site looking for fun and have no reason to be anyone but themselves (or mostly themselves ;) ). But, I also think that there are people who aren't for real.

If anything, some people who don't show their face are concerned with their privacy and not so much as portraying someone else. But there are some girls who do show their face and are for real. So, as was mentioned above I guess there is no way to know.

Personally, I think it's hard to fake a personality for too long before the real person comes out anyway. But that's just my opinion.
