Iron Man Rawks!

Oh, I KNOW I'm going to see this joint again. Maybe in a month or so when the minor "down time" of the current early summer releases happens. Yes, it was that good, without question. I left the theater feeling a creative, positive energy I hadn't felt since I saw Sexy Beast yon years ago!

Agreed, dude. This movie hit on all cylinders. I have to admit that I am SERIOUSLY geeking up for Indy later this month, but I am also soooooo very pleased with this flick. I am hearing a lot of "top five superhero movies" stuff about this one. Oaky, so seriously... which ones beat it? I am thinking top three at least.

Having said that, I still have to say Christopher Reeve kicked ass as Superman... and I don't even like Superman that much. So some of that might have to do with my belief that Chris became a hero himself after his accident.

Christopher Reeve fucking rocked.

That he did, for then. Actually, I really did love Superman when it came out. Even more than the remake, and I have nothing against the remake save for the fact that he wasn't really FIGHTING against an enemy that could kick his ass for a bit and show for it, except for the standard kryptonite bullshit. And that's why I never could click with Superman as a whole; he's too "perfect."

Now, Iron Man...I honestly thought it would be substandard when the first trailer came out...then...it just turned up the volume bit by bit...and even Thursday night when I went to see the late-night shows before the official Friday release, I had not an inkling of the dazzle-ment I was in for. Dude, the tech and design shit ALONE in that movie would've rocked enough had the acting and the story been boilerplate! Here's the gist of what makes that movie rock: YOU WANT TO BE IN THAT FUCKING SUIT OF ARMOR DOING THE SAME SHIT. It's almost like wanting Wolverine's claws and adamantium skeleton. How many times have I just wanted to bust out with those shits in the midst of a throng of people when I'm being irritated in public? It's the same shit. Remember when Terrence Howard's character looked at the gold version of the suit in the lab and said, "someday, baby?" That was the comics' canon WAR MACHINE talking right there and I KNEW exactly how he felt! Aieeee...

This was truly a rare surprise. And I'm so scared that my expectations have been raised too high that Speed Racer and Indy won't match what Iron Man did. But we shall see...:D

Yeah, I'm seriously considering going again. And that's big, considering how many "event" movies are competing for my dollar this month.

Surprisingly the early reviews for Speed Racer have been off the charts. I haven't heard one that calls it less than "astonishing". I've been a little cynical, but am looking forward to checking it out. I couldn't care less about Narnia. Not only have the early reviews been bad, but the subject seems kind of weak and the previews haven't made it any more enticing. I hate to say it, but I feel the same about Indy. Nothing I've seen reminds me of the first or third movie. Maybe it's the way they're cutting up the trailers, but it just looks like an old, slow Harrison Ford doing the things he used to do, now dragging along the kid from Transformers (giving us a really bad attempt at an accent). I'll probably wait until I hear the reviews before I consider it, and then only go if it's overwhelmingly positive.

Speed Racer looks crap to me. No interest at all. I won't even watch it on commercial TV when it gets there.

I might go see Iron Man again just to get a better seat than last time :D (I was int he front off to the side, about where I was for Transformers)

Batman Begins
X Men
X2 (Wolverine Unleashed, as I like to call it)

I'm having trouble remembering other superhero movies. Do comic movies in general count? I might toss up the latest Punisher and Sin City on that list and place Iron Man just below, or right with Punisher (yes, I love that movie, even though a lot of people appear to hate it).

So yeah, I guess top 5...

I'd call Sin City a comic book movie but not a superhero movie. Punisher might have to be called a Superhero movie though, since he co-inhabits the Marvel Universe... but that illustrates what has already been said as one of the problems with past flicks. The failure to show that this all is happening in that one same alternate reality.

I thought the first X-men movie was not as good as the second, despite some nails-on moments with Magneto & Xavier and Scott & Logan and some other really good performances and choices. I would place Iron Man above the first X.

Hmmmm I'd have to go...

Batman Begins
X-Men
Iron Man
Spiderman
Superman Returns

Not so sure how the rest would line up after that...

Actually not planning to see Speed Racer. Grew up watching that show but the ads really don't interest me yet...only two movies I plan to see next are Dark Knight and Indiana Jones

Um...where are these "off the chart" reviews of which you speak? Rotten Tomatoes has it at only 38% approval rating from advanced reviews.

Here's one reviewers quote: "I reckon the M.P.A.A. should use the advent of Speed Racer to revive an old ratings symbol: a big Roman X, meaning 'of no conceivable interest to anyone over the age of ten'" and another, "It’s an eyesore, a shambles, with incoherent action and ear-buckling dialogue."

Now, of course, once it hits the theaters there will be more reviews and they might be better and raise that rating up much higher, but that's hardly close to "off the charts" as with Iron Man's 94% reviewer approval rating. I'm not doubting your word that there are glowing reviews, but I'm not seein' em. Not even among those who liked the movie.
