I have been sorting through some of my books and I have found:
Iraq: A Tourist's Guide
It probably dates from my father's last visit to Baghdad in the 1970s. It is interesting reading.
There are a few pictures of veiled women, usually in rural scenes. They are outnumbered by pictures of women in swimsuits and there are nearly as many pictures of belly dancers (titled 'oriental dance').
There are eight named night clubs in Baghdad; 9 First Class Cinemas and 9 Second Class Cinemas. What is the difference?
I don't think US and UK forces in Baghdad find it as welcoming as the Guide suggests: "Welcome to a land which has been accustomed to receiving everyone gladly, because of its position as a link between East and West since the oldest times... Welcome to the land of black gold... land of palm trees and delicious, plentiful fruit... the land of the warm and evershining sun."
