Iran says monkey sent to space
Saying the animal returned successfully, state TV calls mission another step towards goal of a manned space flight.

Last Modified: 28 Jan 2013 12:51

Iranian state TV says the country has successfully sent a monkey into space in what was described as another step towards the country's goal of a manned space flight.

Monday's report said the monkey was sent up in a Pishtam, or Explorer, rocket to a height of 120km. It gave no other details on the timing or location of the launch, but said the monkey returned safely.

Iran has said it seeks to send an astronaut into space as part of its ambitious aerospace programme.

In 2010, Iran said it launched a rocket into space carrying a mouse, turtle and worms.

The US and its allies worry that technology from the space programme could also be used to develop long-range missiles that could potentially be armed with nuclear warheads.

with just a dash of jingoism...

i'm sure with their burgeoning top-notch technology, the first one or two will veer north of the target hitting PEI or Nova Scotia... like the rabid snakes they aimed at ireland; hitting instead, an abandoned rig in the north sea... best get out your monkey nets

Upcoming Iranian Presidential Elections

This guy looks like an excellent candidate:

Amirahmadi launches bid to be Iran's next president

Academic rival set to replace Ahmadinejad in hotly-contested June elections

A committee formed by prominent Iranian businessmen has nominated Dr. Hooshang Amirahmadi to contest next summer’s presidential elections in Iran.

The move comes as Iran plunges deeper into economic despair, the prospect of war with the United States and international isolation fuelled by crippling sanctions designed to thwart the country’s alleged nuclear programme. Yesterday, President Obama’s former advisor anticipated US military action in 2013 if diplomacy and economic sanctions failed to halt Iran's uranium enrichment programme.

A highly-regarded academic, Amirahmadi holds a Ph.D. in economic planning and international development from Cornell University and is a professor at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He served for many years as director of the University’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies.

He is also a senior associate at Oxford University in the U.K. and helped found the Centre for Iranian Research and Analysis and the American-Iranian Council, an organisation devoted to improving the relationship between the United States and Iran and promoting civil society institutions in Iran.

Canada will never be the target of a Terrorist attack.

Why? Because their families are all here for safe-keeping.

Iran cyber police uncovers hacking of US bank: Report

Source: Mehr News Agency, Tehran

The Head of FETA (Iran's cyber police) says the police has identified the source of attack to US Citibank, and denies that Iranians have a role in attack, Mehr News Agency reported from Tehran on Sunday.

"The attack sources have not been located inside Iran and even Iranian users have been victimized," says Brigadier General Seyed Kamal Hadianfar, the head of Iranian Cyber Police in an interview to Mehr News. FETA has been launched in May 2011 to contain new wave of cyber crime. In a short time, FETA employed elites and experts and prevented many crimes, with 67 cases with definite outcomes. Iran's discovery of cybercrime cases is twice that of developed countries.

Gasoline is 33 cents a Litre in Iran...about $1.25/US Gallon

Which is part of the reason Iran is slowly going bankrupt.

Gasoline sells at a government-subsidized price in Tehran and $0.25 per gallon in Caracas. Of course, nothing else works.

"No government is brave enough— or has enough popular support— to do away with cheap gas[oline], but it's gradually killing the Iranian state. Iran consumes far more gasoline than its overburdened refineries can produce, which puts the government in the awkward position of having to export crude oil and then pay to reimport gasoline from foreign refineries, at a cost of $4.7 billion in 2004."

Oil On The Brain: Adventures From The Pump To The Pipeline

I've always known that Iran has to import gasoline. If you asked the man on the street or a United States Senator if it was true that a founding member of OPEC and one of the largest petroleum exporters in the world was short of gasoline, they'd look at you as if you were an idiot.

That's not true....you can drink the tap water in Caracas; it's a gorgeous place and much safer than most American cities.

ROTFLMFAO.
