am i the only one that thinks this is absofuckinlutely insane? cbs aired a followup on their "investigative report" on airport security tonight because "the public needs to know". they sent folks through security at airports all accross the country with government approval and carrying these film bags that are x-ray proof. you can't tell what's in them when they go through the scanner. they not only got many of them through security but then they listed the airports that they went through and the percentage of times that the bags were checked. there were several airports that never checked inside one of these bags.

so now every terrorist or wannabe terrorist that has a tv knows which airports would give them a 90 to 100% chance of smuggling something on board. fuckin' genius.

is this responsible journalism? really, am i the only one that thinks this is stupid?

I had the same thoughts when they did there "How safe are our nuclear power plants" thing last year.

It made so much sense to me, to show people the structure and how to access them. grrrr... stupid people.

UJ, the whole concept of airport security as currently implemented is obscenely stupid. Not one serious player would be intimidated by what's been done. There never really has been any security to speak of.

I'm sorry, but this is just a further confirmation that the government can't do a damn thing and that security ultimately is in the hands of those that are threatened.

If the terrorists really did want to shut this country down it could be done easily. The terrorists of last Sept. shut the air transportation system down for what? 5 day or so? How'd you like to totally cripple the system for a month or two? Piece of cake and an airplane isn't even required. Hell, there would be no security at all to prevent what could be done.

you're right, of course, ishmael but it still seems ludicrous to hand out instructions to the less intelligent terroists. the news report was quick to point out that the one airport that now has all government employees performing security caught the film bags 100% of the time. that makes me feel a lot safer.

i guess computer terrorism is more frightening than problems at the airports and god knows how much trouble they culd cause with bio-terrorism and such.

anyway, i'm gonna go read some porn. otherwise i'll get depressed.
