...the son of Jeb, nephew of W, and grandson of the 41st president of the United States, George Prescott Bush is officially campaigning for the first time for public office, Texas Land Commissioner.

This 2:49 vid is about much, much more than just running for Land Commissioner, though - it is no doubt his political coming-out to the entire country.

Didn't vote for his papaw or uncle Dub, and wouldn't vote for his pop...

...and from just this initial packaging, I'll never vote for this Bush, either, 'cause his vid almost makes me puke.

I suppose there's no point in my asking if he has any qualifications for the job other than being named George Bush?

Not that he needs anything else in this state.

At least he had the good sense to get out of Florida. That in itself marks him as having more on the ball than his old man.

GP has been being groomed and promoted for years for politics. Sounds like he finally found a gig he would like.

I predicted many years ago that Romney as frontrunner would automatically equal a Dem win.

This is a far easier prediction. If this man gets the Republican nod, the Dems can run Andy Dick.

Well, it's a bit soon to talk about George P. Bush's presidential prospects! He hasn't even been elected Land Commissioner yet!

BTW, what does the Texas Land Commissioner do? I've never heard of any such office in Florida. Sounds like a holdover from the homesteading days, an official who decides which white settlers get to claim the land the Indians were just driven out of.

Y'all would be well advised not to sell "P"short.

He is no dummy.

Research him.

Selling someone else's intelligence with a sentence that begins with "Y'all"?

LOL.

It is an expression used a lot by southern people to smoke out assholes and Bigots.

How is it doing so far?

Actually, it is an expression use a lot by Southern people to demonstrate their own mental deficiency.

So far, it works great! :)

Yeah, but into Texas; that's a sign of mental retardation or insanity.

We're doing our best to spruce it up.

It manages public land, of which Texas has a whole shitload. It's considered an important job, though not as important as being the Railroad Commissioner--despite the name, the main job of the Railroad Commissioner these days is regulating (or mostly, not regulating) the oil industry.

I understand Texas has one of those funny constitutions. The Governor actually has very little power; it's all in the hands of the separately-elected Cabinet officials.

Jim Hightower once was Agriculture Commissioner and appears to have built a lefty (yes, and he's a Texan! :D) radio-column on that fact alone.

At a time when Governor Rick Perry, the longest-serving governor in Texas history, is still deciding whether or not to seek a 4th term, the San Antonio Express-News reports Democrats aren't progressing at all in deciding upon a gubernatorial candidate themselves...

...some word, though, is beginning to air re: San Antonio mayor and 2012 Democrat Convention darling Julian Castro.

Last week, Texas land commissioner candidate George P. Bush gave the keynote address @ the 47th Texas Legislative Conference...

...I don't know if it'll be 2014 or not, but I definitely see political battles looming on the horizon between these two Texas upstarts.
