The day had started out so well for the daddy/daughter outing that Jack Dowling, 35, had planned on them. He had always been a big gamer since he had been a kid, and he had been trying to get his daughter involved. He had won two tickets to the Florida Game Convention through a contest given by Xeric Corp, an up and coming VR gaming company. After a fun day, at least for him, the two of them were heading back to the hotel when the heavy rain storm struck.
He could barely see the road, let alone the semi truck that had lost control just ahead of them. The ensuing accident was bad. Though neither of them were seriously injured, they both ended up in a coma. They were airlifted to the hospital nearest the convention. IN a strange turn of events, the CEO of Xeric Corp. felt he should take care of them by paying for their medical bills, but also use them as test subjects for a new set of gaming equipment. The equipmment was actually full bodysuits designed to give full sensory input from the game world. As it was untested, they wanted to see how much the equipment could be put through.
The game they had decided to place the two in was a new DnD adventure that would have them pitted against surviving an slow starting zombie apocalypse.
----
Jack moaned softly as the darkness and throbbing were slowly clearing from his mind. The last things he remebered was a very bright light distorted by a windshiled covered in rain, followed by blackness. Now the darkness was being replaced by the sounds of birds chirping and a cool, but smelly breeze coming his way. It took a few moments before he could open his eyes against the bright sunlight. He growled softly as he shielded his eyes with one hand, looking around.
It was a very large open field that he had found himself in. He was currently sitting down in the middle of some tall wheatgrass, swaying back and forth in the wind. Alarms bells began going off that something was right, so he jump up from the ground quickly. It took a few moments to get his sense of feeling back, feeling some very unfamiliar items on him. He blinked for a moment as he looked down at the puddle that was at his feet, reflecting his image.
"What the hell?"
