Internet Security Options

Firefox and Mozilla are Linux based and the bots the spyware and malware use don't have the holes in security to play in like windows. Plus the architecture is different and most viruses and malware get lost because they have no reference.

You do have to check your cookies and Spybot is now updated to check them and remove the bad ones...

as Can't said, it's small and fast but has full features, even a built in spell checker...

The new IE I think it's 7 is basically a knock off of Firefox... Bill only steals the best....

howdy.

The main thing, as already alluded to, is IE has a huge target on it when it comes to theives exploting & hacking it to get to user data. Since it is the default browser provided by windows, there are a lot of people using it because they don't know they have alteratives. So it is time cost effective for people to learn how to use its bugs to steal people's stuff.

Firefox/mozilla is picking up in market share as its existance is becoming more main stream information. Like any software, it has bugs. Some of which an ingenuous thief will find a way to use.

The primary downside to using firefox (or any browser than IE) is there are sites out there which are totally bought into IE and Micro$oft being gods gift to computers and with make their web site so it only functions completely and properly under IE. Firefox programmers are doing their best to make IE exclusive pages as functional as possible, but as long as M$ keeps their code closed and membership into an exclusive, high cost club to see it, Firefox will never be able to do everything on an IE designed site.

As far as browsers, I am a proponent of Opera. It works on about any web page Firefox will. It has less than a 10% market share, so most theives don't feel it's worth their time to try exploting any bugs which come up. Opera also has had many functionalities for years that Firefox/Mozilla and IE have picked up on pesudo recently. Tabs is one functionality that comes to mind. An option to Clear cookies and cache data on exit of the program is another.

The good thing is you can have IE, Firefox/Mozilla, & Opera installed on a machien at the same time. So if I page doesn't work in one of them, you just bring it up in another.

Now if we can just get people to realize OpenOffice has all the same functionalities as Micro$oft Office and more...

Finally the eville Norton is gone, and I've d/l Avast. I'm also getting the firewall and pop-up blockers. Blocking pop-ups was one thing Norton was good for. Thanks all. :)
