This is a friendly place where you can admit that the internet has blown your attention span all to hell. That you get fidgety if you can't click on something every two minutes. That you've always got three or four windows and a Messenger open when you should be writing.

Come forth. You're among friends here.

All too accurate, I'm afraid. A bad, bad habit. *clicks on Refresh*

I totally see your point. But I think of the Internet as more of an enabler than a root cause.

It's all too easy to become distracted. :(

And it is even worse since they now have browsers with effective 'tabs' that work well, you can move around even more.
Just one messenger?
Carson.!
:)

I always have my browser open to something. :)

I rarely use my messengers anymore tho. I used to be on them all the time, but then my regular chat buddies got lives.

Oh! And it's doubly worse for me cuz I'm taking my classes online, so I have to be online alot of the time. And I do tons of research online, write papers, etc.

How dare they!

current windows open:
Mozilla: one tab for lit, one tab for email, one tab for monster, one tab for independant insurance agents.
Internet explorer: window for monster.
Excel, Word and Yahoo.

all this before going to work when i will have a squillion windows up for database(ing) and writing programs.

when i work from home, i set goals...finish one section, do a load of laundry. finish another section, do the dishes. do another section...ect.
i couldnt operate with just one window. the less i have going, the less i do.

Sounds like my computer. Word and Excel, almost always open. In Mozilla, tabs for the AH, Blogger, LiveJournal, and MyYahoo! (for feeds). Add Windows Media Player (with the playlist du jour on headphones), Outlook (for a dozen or so webmaster@... e-mail accounts), an FTP utility (for uploads to those sites), and FrontPage (with at least six pages open).

Messenger's usually open, but I lurk invisibly most of the time. I seldom "reach out and touch someone."

I have no idea what you're talking about, I'm quite in control of.......hmmmm smudge on the screen....gotta get that off....when did I light this cigarette?.....need more coffee......hmmmm smudge on the screen...

I totally forget what I was actually turning on the computer to do in the FIRST place... :x never fails... then I sign off and close up shop and think, "Oh wait, I never did... X!" and so I sign back on... and the cycle starts all over again...

Since it seems you're on first name basis with it... what's monster?

Lets see:

Winmx

5 Ie: Lit forums, lit stories, a site on flight 19, a site on diving Belize, a site on the walth vp-70z

7 words: Historical short (non erotic), historical short (erotic), spy story, les erotic, les erotic, No idea

4: win exploere: wip folder, complete works folder, a cd & a dvd

Notepad: a preplanned response to someone in a thread, should they reply :)

Maybe I'm not as bad as I thought....

Mozilla: three tabs
Outlook Express
MSN Messenger Window
One WIP

Mmmm....

I must not suffer from this afliction as I only have one window open at this time. I do have Windows Media player with streaming radio.

But I do have three other computers going each with a window or two open.

Comp. 2 - Lotus Notes, Powerbuilder 7.0, Powerbuilder 9.0

Comp. 3 - Dreamweaver 8, Toad, Sql+, IE. 6

Comp. 4 - Just sitting there. - it's a file/print server.

Oh and they are all on a KVM switch so I only have one mouse, one keyboard and one monitor.

So I have to flip thru the machines to work.

Attention span? What's attention? :D

But, seriously, I have ADHD and tend to pace and get fidgety anyway. The Internet would be a convenient scapegoat, but I hardly think it an accurate one for me. :D

Holy shit!

Okay, so I don't multitask.

I think I have the longest attention span here.
