To all those women who have fought, fought, and fought again to improve the lives of other women around the world, with no thought for themselves, their own safety, their own lives........I salute you.

Without you, I'd still be a slave in some man's kitchen, being used as a human incubator.

Without you, I'd not be educated, have no rights of ownership, have no right to vote.

Without you, I'd not have been able to divorce, and more especially, marry the woman I love without fear of retribution in the workplace, in health, in public.

Without you I'd still be a lesser being, worthless.

With all my heart, I thank you.

Mat.

And to all the women in the world today, I celebrate your strengths, your diversity, your talents, your intelligence, your gentleness, your humour.

I love you all.

In Russia, and other parts of the former Soviet Union this is just not another " //fill in the blank// Day", it is a major, national holiday....

Our office, for instance, stopped work early on Friday and had an elaborate celebration with gifts, entertainment (including me and my guitar) and many drinks.... and this is only the beginning of the long weekend... (The holiday is observed on Monday) with hordes of lovely women out and about..... All we need is some real spring weather and it would be perfect...

Unlike my homeland where such a celebration, as it observed here, would be considered wholly inappropriate if not legally actionable, the culture here revels in the recognition of feminine beauty and the raison d'etre for all that is important to men... (or at least the 90% of them)

So... I lift my glass to you.... the beautiful, strong, talented and sexy women of lit........ and wish you a wonderful Woman's Day!

As for me... I will spend the evening seeking beautiful women to express my appreciation for them more fully.....

Even self-professed fascists don't dispute that the purpose of government is to promote the well being of the polulation and create The Good Society. Well, here's half the population+ that has some inproved well-being to celebrate (at least in the west), and some heros known and unknown to thank for it.

Thank you, Foremothers. :rose:

ROXANNE

I agree with you completely.

I'm reading a memoir of a man's experiences in North Africa. Excess females are sold into sexual slavery there.

All the whooping about celebrating women is contrary to the reality most women live with: They have little utilitarian value in undeveloped societies. Females are an army of one in America and the commonewealth countries because of techology and science.

In their souls I think women know this. Theyre like refrigerators that work quietly and efficiently, and are forgotten.

Poverty and struggle clouds the real contribution women make: Civilization.

so youre actually a woman who feels what you've said above and need to wear a james johnson label and be a huge fucking arsehole on the internet to feel your worth?

my sympathies. and happy women's day to you

Its true. Most places on the planet females are chattel. Theyre sold or traded like goats. Hell! In China parents murder female infants.

If you think I'm wrong, pick any Moslem country you want, and check things out.

I say celebrate the real, bonafide contribution females made to the world: Civilization.
