Interesting Vamp Story Idea....

I was directed by a friend of mine who knows that I like to write a variety of differing genres of stories to look at Vampires: The Masquerade... he just wanted to know what I thought of it. Now, not very big on those boardgame roleplaying type games (like Warhammer and such, by GamesWorkshop) but, as an author, I always found that these alternate universes created for these hobby enthusiasts were VERY interesting indeed...

The Masquerade is pretty much a battle between two vampiric ideals... The Camarilla, who wish to rule humanity in relative obsqurity, and the Sabbatt, who wish to dominate humankind overtly, and live in a world of bloodlust and evil. There are neutrals in the conflict, as well (clans of vampires whose alliances change as their own internal policies change) and, to make things even more intriguing, a group of vampire Ancients whose own agenda seems to bring about the distruction of their 'chrildren' and the bringing about of the final apocalypse.

The original vampire was Caine, who, by killing his brother Abel, was cursed forever by God and was forced to live forever as the first of the Undead....

I could go on for ages about how cool a concept this all is for a story... but I won't. Suffice to say, what I'm thinking of doing is blending this concept with a number of other Vampire concepts I've found interesting over the years, to come up with something that I THINK and HOPE will be wholely original (I know, coming up with a Vampire idea that hasn't been done to death is quite hard! :)).

I want to have a couple of main characters:

1. An Ancient, someone from antiquity that has been made into a vampire millennia ago and has been wandering the earth, sowing seeds of evil and garnering followers down through the aeons.

2. A 'hero' vampire, some form of redeemer-type working for a super-secret branch of the US government that has been combating the supernatural for over one hundred years.

3. A femme-fatale schemer vampire, who has been plotting and scheming to get control of a number of key feifdoms across the world so that much of the vampires' territories will be hers.

There will be human characters, as well, that I am yet to properly develop. Basically, this will hopefully turn into a tale filled with a lot of sex and action, woven together into a zippy piece of erotica that I hope will appeal.

My first question is this... does it sound good? I wouldnt really take anything from the Masquerade, but rather change things to suit my own view of what they should have originally done. Not just action here people but a lot of sensuous lovin' too :D.

I was thinking that it was going to be a pretty big series, something that I could get out to readers once a week or two-weeks. So my second question is this... should I try to put my first chapter into Novels/Novella, and put a warning or sumthing about the violence and horror themes contained within, or just start posting in the Erotic Horror category?

Thanks for hearing out my ideas... comments and suggestions appreciated!

Start writing. :D

The Novella category gets less reads.

Unless it is all blood and gore and horrible, I would go for the non-human category.

Non-Human, hey? Thought it should go into erotic horror category myself... regardless of how many people actually get killed and such, the stories would probably have a supernatural theme so I thought would be more appropriate there.

I like it. Be cautious not to veer too much into Buffy territory, though I like the idea that your female Vamp has a redeeming quality as well- I like strong, sexy, wicked but ultimately "good" women.

Read the wide ranging Vampire thread on this forum and see which ideas you should borrow or avoid.

I agee a series of freestanding stories building on each other, but readable on their own is best.

I tend to skip over Erotic Horror unless I know the author or the description looks cool. But I do the same with nonhuman. I agree that either of these is better thasn Novels if you want lots of reads. Once you label it a Novel, you get a limited audience. Consider however that Novels dominate the hghest score TopList.

Captain you can borrow Bridget but I'm not sure she could be a lot of help in the state she's in now.

It does sound like a very exciting idea. I also will agree on the category issue. You don't nearly as many reads or votes in the Novels category but also the finale of my vampire (vampiress?) story has the highest rating of anything I've ever written.

one more thing

Please remember to include lots of sex. As I read the ooutline, I see the risk that the Ancient in particular needs attention in this area. Perhaps he needs regular sex to survive? Or that his semen is how he sires new females?

Well, I liked Buffy but no, was never intending on veering into that series too much... though some of the adversaries she, Angel and their posse's did face WERE pretty interesting, not to mention unique.

My whole view on this series is going to be that the 'old-school' vampires and the 'new-age' vampires are fighting over the way to dominate humanity... my female vamp was going to be a mini-manipulator (she does not realise that the Ancient is in turn manipulating HER) in my story, as far as I was thinking.

And I dont really know if any of my vamps are going to be GOOD, except most likely the male lead, who's fighting for the benefit of humankind after centuries of serving as the Ancient's lapdog. Both the faction of vampires who want to rule with an iron fist, out in the open and unafraid, and the faction that wants to instead rule from the shadows have an undeniable thirst for power and control over mortals that they cannot fight and cannot deny... this in turn becomes the battle within for the 'heroic vamp' lead.

Stand-alone stories? Well, yes that would be better, but harder to write for me as all of this is going to link together! However, yeh I think now I'll give that a try, thanks! And at the moment, because already I've got numerous people dead on only the 7th page, I'm looking at puttin this into the Erotic Horror category...

Thanks so much for the offer, but I'd rather start from scratch and create new, fresh, 'unique' characters. Lol no i dont think she is, a bit of a family-vamp now hey! A great series, Bridget's Nights, thanks so much for writing it! :D

Yes well I think the reason for the success of your vampire series wth Bridget was the fact that it seemed to blend the vamp mythology with our current timeframe, and thats a good thing :). I'm hoping to write over various times in history that I personally have found to be very interesting, and we'll see where that takes us with the readers!

Yes well the way I was going to rectify this situation was by writing the Ancient's take in the tale back when he was younger and more 'active'... the semen idea's interesting, but I think the whole notion of the vampires being seductive psychically-powerful beings is more faithful to the genre and more to my liking...

Feeding on humans is going to be, for the most part unless on the battlefield or something, a innately sexual experience... easier for the vamps to bite when their intended victims are right there in bed next to them :p.

Actually Captain, you can't have her because someone else has already borrowed her for his series. But actually I agree that you're own characters would be best, both because their YOURS and because the change I made in the vampire mythos means Bridget wouldn't fit in. Besides, she's busy having kids now anyway.

Mmmm okay, more Bridget stories out there huh? Would be interested to read them, if the new writer has one or more posted at the moment... got a name for me to go on, Patricia, or perhaps a link? Thanks a bunch

Not yet Captain. As a courtesy he's sent me the chapters at the same time he's sent them to his editor. Five so far. I believe he's going to complete the entire story before posting it. He's mingling three characters of his own creation with her. Its quite interesting so far. I would guess there are three more chapters to go. I'll let you know when He sends it it.

Wow! How'd it do that? I couldnt find it... weird. Thanks, Sir :)

Umph, btw to those who are interested, don't know if I'm going to have enough sex in the story to post here on Lit, will try but are actually having more fun writing a good vampires-secretly-controlling-world-events type story... getting pretty fkn crazy but showed the first two Ch.'s to my bro and he was pretty supportive of the work!

Cool, cause he usually thinks my writing's shit! :p

That's cool Captain. I've been scribbling off and on for months (in my copious spare time) on a couple of non-erotic stories I plan to send into a fanfiction site. One is an "Angel" story and the other is a "Tour of Duty" Story. If the second one sounds like a strange one for a woman to be writing (for those not familiar with it, it was about an American infantry platoon in Vietnam) its somewhat of an attempt to put into words some of the feelings my husband has shared with me over the years.

That's great to hear... the 'Tour of Duty' story sounds especially interesting. Shows the horrors of warfare? I like war stories that reflect the senselessness of war but the heroism of those who participate in them.... even some of the flicks about German combatants in World War II are good, shows the other side had decent people fighting for a real bad cause.

Umph, can you provide a link to the fanfiction site, maybe? Either through PM or here? I havnt really bothered looking for a non-erotic site like this one, but would be appreciative if you could link it to me! Thanks!!! :D

BTW to those who give a hoot... sorry, but this story is turning into a really good tale, thou no erotica at all. Up to Ch. 03 now, been workin thru the nite on it :). So far 31 pages! :D

you casn always add sex in the " for Lit " version. We like sex even if it is gratuitous.:D

hehe ok... will keep that in mind :p But yeah... thinkin about posting more on the FanFiction site, got a few stories lined up that will fit! But Lit will always be my 'horny, hauntly home' :)

I think fanfic is especially adaptable to gratuious sex, since sex appeal is such a big part of the attraction in the first place.
