The San Francisco Chronicle has reported that NASA is investigating a photo taken by a San Francisco photographer about 7 minutes before the shuttle disintegrated.
The photo reportedly shows the shuttle being struck by a zig zagging purple light similar to a lightning bolt.
The photographer is not going to release the photo until NASA has a cnace to examine it.
While there are many possible benign reasons for the appearance of the photo, including the possibility that the camera moved slightly when the pic was taken, The Chronicle did report that the NASA investigator's first statement when she saw the photograph was "WOW!" The Chronicle noted that this investigator has five prior shuttle missions.
