In Mickie's discussion about writing and feedback, he brought up a good point about writers' efforts and attitudes if this were a paid site. I know plenty of sites that don't pay, but your work must be approved for publication.

Are you interested in being paid for your writing? Have you submitted to any publications either print or online? What did the process entail?

Have you been paid for your work? How did you feel the first time you got a check from a publisher?

In another thread, Whispersecret asked if folks wondered if celebrities ever read at Literotica. Have folks ever wondered if publishers and editors read here? I'm not just talking larger houses, but has it ever crossed your mind that someone who could help you get your first clip was among the readership?

Looking forward to reading folks thoughts.

I've been paid for publication.

The check was very small, but there it was. I took it to the bank. I later found out that the magazine closed down and I was one of the few to get paid and have the check clear. I think the money to time spent ratio worked out to about 36 cents per hour.

I get a picture of all these dewy eyed people clutching manuscripts in their hands, pleading for information on where to publish their babies. "Oh, pleeeease! Can you tell me where a reputable agent or publisher resides? Won't you help out a poor starving artist? A crust of your time, Mr. Big-Time Publisher?"

Publishing is fun. Getting ripped off isn't. I've been accepted for publication with a company that seems to have changed its format in mid-thought. Disgruntled authors are leaving like rats fleeing from a sinking ship. The only permanent thing about publishing is that there are a lot of scams out there. Beware, all you hopeful writers. Writing the damned thing is easy. Finding a decent publisher is like looking for a diamond in an outhouse shitter.

Mickie--

Oh yeah. I sure hope folks don't get the wrong idea. I have no horror stories, but my clips are modest ones. People mistakenly think I have an inside scoop. :) I know something about the industry, but I'm a peon so don't look to me, folks. hehehehehe

If people only knew how unglamourous an editor's job is. Everybody doesn't have Jack Nicholson's job. :)

Peace,

daughter
