I wonder sometimes if other writers find what might loosely be called "ordinary life" to be as horribly boring as I do. My life has been, and continues to be, filled with some pretty amazing stuff. I guess that's why I write. So much has happened to me and it just has to be written about. But, I've encountered many people who it seems have had no such experiences and I try to be nice to them, but they make me want to go to sleep. Is it just me, or do others sometimes feel like this?

It does happen. My life has not been the thrill ride I had wanted, but engaging enough to be entertaining and keep my stimulated. Its when I am accosted by... acquaintances that ramble on endlessly about nothing, or repeat the same story for the fifth time, that I excuse myself and politely go find a sunset to watch or get out my notebook and jot an idea or three down for the next story I mean to write.

I am so very thankful for moleskin pocket notebooks and a pda that I can password protect.

Um, no. That's why I write about dolls that come to life, and kids that travel forward in time. Nothing like that ever happens to me. I'm one of those people who would put you to sleep. But thanks for being nice!

Aww, Marsh. That's not true. I think you're quite entert...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Me too, Marsh! *yawn* I'm so boring. But I do know/ am related to people who are even more boring than I am. ;)

I've had enough excitement within the last three years to last me a lifetime. I'll pass now. Give me the day to day grind; the busyness of marriage and love; the drama of family; the often repeated stories of past fame, childhood, and family history anytime. I love my life just like it is, with one minor exception, thank you very much.

I'll second Marsh's thank you, though. :rose:

I'm sorry. I put myself to sleep writing my last message. What were we talking about?

I thought we'd agreed not to iscuss-day that in ublic-pay, inx-may.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go outside and see how the three-day old chicks are doing. Will the excitement never end?

:p I orgot-fay. ;)

Baby chickies! Too cute. :nana:

Patience

I love those little moleskin notebooks too. In fact, I keep one with me most of the time and write with 'em the old-fashioned way--pen on paper. So few people do that anymore, it seems.

But, back to the subject, I have enough experiences to write about forever, but I get bored so frequently that I have to add to them or I'll just sink from monotony. Can't imagine the nine-to-five, marital drudgery thing.

And, btw, I'm not pretentious. I just happen to speak French.

Darn it, why do people always assume that? (not to mention ennui is in the English dictionary)

Anyway, on topic: I do get bored fairly often as well, though I think it's just a personality trait for me. Amusement just doesn't last long. I just don't think others should be required to provide me with said amusement, though.

Nor do I expect others to amuse me. By the same token, I don't want to be around people who bore me either. I just like to keep some gamble in the mix at all times or everything falls flat.

Like minx, I've had quite enough excitement in my life, a long stint of homelessness and an even longer stretch of severe mental illness chief among them.

Boredom is highly underrated in my opinion.

Once again, I'm just the opposite.

:D:D Does that mean you ARE pretentious, or that you DON'T speak French?

(I couldn't help it. I tried and tried to leave it alone, but I just couldn't let it go. )

Pretentious? Certainment! Speak French? Just enough to get my face slapped. ;)

From my intensive collegiate studies in logic, I recall that one may negate a conjunction by undermining either of the subsidiary statements on which the conjunction depends for its truthfulness.

And I don't speak French, either.

:D

*Swoon* I think I'm in lust. ;)

I don't speak French either, but I'm one hell of a googler. :D

To be bored is generally easily remedied with a little inventiveness. To declare oneself bored is a sign that one is not up to that challenge. Boredom is an internal state.

Makes me think of a quote which said, "boredom is an insult to oneself". I think it was Jules Renard who said it.

In any case, I do agree that it's often tiresome to interact with people who bore me. However, whenever I find myself in that situation, I try to remind myself that those things I find fascinating may be quite dull to others, and so I try to be patient and polite.

That's not what Jules used to say to me. She would say, "Marsh, these people are drivin' me nuts. When the fuck can we leave?"

Oh no, wait, that was Julie Renard. God, she was cute. Never mind. Your friend probably said it in French anyway, which we've already demonstrated is not my language.

So that patient and polite thing probably works better than what I do, which is interrupt them to point out clouds that look like sheep.

I find that conquering boredom just requires better observation. My baby chicks are starting to get feathers now. Let the good times roll. Don't even think about it, Cerise.

Yes. On the other hand, I welcome my ordinary life. I've seen enough people lead a life of self-imposed chaos that I embrace the small day to day activities of my life, enjoying my wife and kids, etc. if I want stimulation I'll figure out something entertaining to do. At this point in my life I don't have as high a need for novelty, stimulation, and excitement, though I won't pass up a good roller coaster ride. :)

eta: My daughter just locked her keys in her car and I must rush to the rescue. I feel the exhilarating rush of adrenaline!! :nana:

Did you just call Jules Renard my friend? Are you calling me old then :p

But it's true, I don't worry too much about being bored nowadays (especially when I recall some of the more "exciting" times in my life). I just seek to learn something I don't know, practice something I do know, or a combination of both.

No, just having fun. Actually, I think he's a little dead, isn't he?

I know. I was just kidding. He was dead before my parents were born.
