Inspirational quotes for writers

“Don’t use words too big for the subject. Don’t say ‘infinitely’ when you mean ‘very’; otherwise you’ll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite.”

"Whenever you are fed up with life, start writing: ink is the great cure for all human ills, as I have found out long ago."

CS Lewis in both cases.

Never Say You Can't Survive by Charlie Jane Anders (Tor, 2021).

--Annie
I was fortunate enough to run into Charlie Jane Anders last weekend in Seattle. Lovely human, eccentric and fun in all the right ways.

A few of my favorite quotes:

"So my advice to other young writers: Read widely. Study other writers. Be thoughtful, Then go out and do the work of changing the form, finding your own voice, and saying what you need to say. Be fearless. And care." - Glory Edim from Well-Read Black Girl.

“Sometimes you need to scorch everything to the ground, and start over. After the burning the soil is richer, and new things can grow. People are like that, too. They start over. They find a way.” - Celeste Ng from Little Fires Everywhere.

Lovely idea for a thread.

I opened a book and made some friends.
I shared their tears and laughter
And followed their road with its bumps and bends
To the happily ever after.

I finished my book and out I came.
The cloak can no longer hide me.
My chair and my house are just the same,
But I have a book inside me.

From Julia Donaldson's poem.

I'm mostly a reader, and this poem is mostly about reading. But that last line - well, it has another layer when the reader is also a writer.
