Incest/Taboo Toplist is FROZEN

I did PM Manu, twice. No response. And Laurel - no response.

As I pointed out, the site admins recommended that I post my thoughts here, in the Author Hangout.

I don't know if I will find a better site. My point is, it doesn't matter if my stories are up here if the toplists aren't working. My number of readers won't increase without the toplists. That's been my point all along.

And Zeb, I don't know you, but I don't understand why you are so abrasive in your comments. In this thread you have used the terms, 'childish', 'moaners', and 'whiners'. I just don't get it. Would you talk to me that way if we met face to face? That's the way I try to deport myself on forums; treat people the same way I would as if I was speaking to them in person.

Where I'm from, we call guys like that Unvarnished Pricks, and they get about as much attention as a two year old crying for a piece of candy five minutes before suppertime. Get used to using the ignore feature, there's plenty more asshats like him around here, unfortunately. I have several on that list already.

Wait...I'm laughing so hard I can hardly catch my breath.

I am sorry if I offended you. But...if you get offended by what I called you, you must get pretty steamed by the comments on your stories.

And you're right, you don't know me, I'm actually a real nice guy, but I do call the kettle black after it's been used. If your offended by my no nonsense approach, like TheLord said, ignore is an option.

But you may miss out on some of my wisdom and truisms.

One being...I call them like I see them. Politically correct bullshit is just that bullshit.

Because being listed there genuinely increases the readership. I think to be read and making an arousing connection is a higher motivation here than to learn or write better. You're making quite a big assumption that all writers post here to develop their writing. I'll bet most just want to get themselves and others off by making a connection with what they think is an arousing story. This isn't advertised as a writing development or critique site. You're making false assumptions, I think that most are here to hone their writing.

So what they really want is the praise and admiration of people they don't know. They want their egos stroked. Good for them.

I write to get better at it and when I posted here, to poke the trolls with a stick. I loved poking the trolls in Loving Wives. It was the most fun I ever had. Never thought of looking at the top list to see where my stories fell. Didn't care.

I don't see this as whining.

A site has a feature and its not a lot to ask that it works. I think a lot of people search for stories via the top list and if you are someone who should have some things up there, but don;t due to malfunctions it can be frustrating

@Zeb as for searching for stories with W's H's and E's how does the person find them? I can be wrong, but I don't think you can search by W/H/E.

Now where you can find those are......

Top lists. Because obviously the top lists are stories that mostly have H's and many W's are found there. E's are harder to fond because generally the scores are lower on those.

Your attack on the OP is a little out of line especially coming from someone who has locked off their voting to keep their H's. So don't get on your horse and pretend things like this don't matter to you.

So, you never used the advanced search feature then?

There you go...now if you want all those H stories just check the H, what nothing but winners, check the W, same goes for editor's choice or any combination of the three.

A PM to Manu would be better. Then maybe you might find out why and that the reason they aren't being fixed is because there is something so much better coming along.

FWIW, I PMed Manu and Laurel about this (a couple of times, months apart) and never got a reply. ChiShyGuy's post here is the first time I've seen acknowledgement that they're aware of the problem.

Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. While I can sympathize with having to start from scratch instead of pulling out one's hair fixing someone else's fuck-up, 2 years is still a more than a little bit much... evey BY those standards.

*shrug* I've reached the point where I just provide what information I can and expect things to happen when and if they happen.

Hell, they still haven't fixed the bug where turning off voting doesn't erase Hs, and I reported that way longer than 2 years ago :p

It may be a low priority when weighed against all the other requests...from us authors. I don't know how many threads there are about things w'all want to know about our readers.

The reports that the entire infrastructure of the site is being migrated to a new, modern code base may very well be the biggest roadblock in fixing problems with existing features.

It could very well be like fixing a house you're planning to tear down before long :p

That thought has crossed my mind on several occasions. New house with a new start. Lots of things will at that point be fixed from the foundation up..

May I ask a really innocent question ?

Why is the 'toplist' (or whatever it's called) so important to an author?
Surely, the thing here is to write, learn and write better?

I enjoy the act of writing but if that was my only motivation I wouldn't go to the trouble of posting on Lit. I get a kick out of making a connection to readers, and to do that I need readers.

(And, yeah, I also like getting my ego stroked. I'm not ashamed of that, not in a country where a guy can be called a "hero" for kicking a pigskin between two sticks :)

A grossly overpaid "hero," I must say. A Facebook ditty is going around (again) disparaging what the president and folks in Congress make--which is peanuts compared to what that "hero" kicking a ball through uprights makes--and whether they do a great job of it or not, their job is just a tad bit more important to our well-being than his--and they have to endure a whole lot more shit rolling over them than he does.

Though they are fun and it's nice to see a story of yours on a ranking, the Top Lists are not the most trafficked form of content discovery. Nowadays, far more widely used are the New Stories pages, the Category Hubs, Search.Literotica.Com, and the Related Stories box on the side of the each stories.

edited to add: Also, Tags are another huge way readers navigate the site. One way you can really help your story's readership in the short term and longterm is to properly tag your stories. Here's a helpful How-To on Story Tags:

We are definitely working on the lists. We are also in the midst of a complete upgrade to the website. As has been said, the wisdom of trying to patch up old code only to tear it down again has been questions. But do know - we are aware of it. On a site of this size - both in pages and readership - every change we make must be thought through for possible repercussions. And as has been seen, changes do sometimes create bugs - bugs which must be fixed before we can proceed.

Please bear with us! We're moving far more slowly than we'd all like, I know, but progress is being made. :rose: Thank you for your patience!

FYI: MANU :D purposely "froze" the all-time INCEST list over a year ago. Both he and the QUEEN are trying to disguise the fact that INCEST stories are accumulating such huge vote totals while their "favorites" NH, SCI FI and NE stories have trouble getting 25 votes let alone 2500.

When you wonder why I don't consider you as someone with an honest interest in improving the site, the constant stream of accusations such as this are the reason.

Thanks, that's interesting to know - I've certainly noticed category hub having a big effect, but I wouldn't have guessed that it had more traffic than the top lists.

Good to know it's on the agenda. I don't mind waiting if I know it hasn't been forgotten.

Thank you so much for responding Laurel, it means a lot!

We look forward to the new improvements. Thanks, as always, for the wonderful site and how much work you put into it.

And yet when he does a number on new posters about the royalties you pay him for his work, you don't just definitively slap him down--you leave it to the regular posters to try to convince the new posters he's lying.

I don't leave it to anybody.

When someone makes obviously ridiculous and untrue statements, people with common sense - even those new to Lit - will see them for what they are: an attempt at attention, which works because people feel compelled to engage it. There's no need to try to counter such assertions. In fact, any attempts to correct them will be written off as cover-ups, conspiracy, etc. And the more attention such trolling garners, the more trolling you'll see here.

In fact, IMO it would be better for all involved if obvious incorrect troll assertions were simply ignored, but I'm not going to tell anyone how to spend their time.

I don't necessarily see why a new poster would automatically see that royalties aren't being paid to certain authors when the Web site doesn't deny it. It happens. I was paid to write stories for Gaydemon while other authors weren't for a year while it was trying to establish its story file and have been paid for stories by other Web sites.

The bottom line is that you contribute to Scouries's little game on the forum by not slapping down his assertions of a special status here--although these seem to be decreasing and it was nice to see you slap him down just now. A bit more of that and I don't think his mischief would be as pervasive here and we wouldn't have the regular posters handholding with new posters constantly.

Scouries can cause a whole lot of havoc in the time needed for a new poster to catch on.

I stand corrected.

Guess it pays to have a lot of time to spend reading.

Too bad Laurel wouldn't give your pompous ass a few slap downs whenever your snarky bullshit drives another newbie off the forum.

Scouries is such an over the top idiot that I cannot imagine someone being so naive as to believe him. The guy is an idiot

Truth be told he is a more preferable idiot than you. His crap is so stupid its laughable and he is good for a few of those from time to time.

All your good for is being rude and pushing people off what you obviously deem as "your" site

You know being the amazing big time editor and author you pretend to be.

talk about false assertions.

That thought has crossed my mind on several occasions. New house with a new start. Lots of things will at that point be fixed from the foundation up..

You have a mind....I never woulda guessed it. ECHO was the word I was thinking.

My goodness, LC, tell us what you really think. I know it was such a struggle for you decide which campaign you were going to go with--the hate one against me, the love-hate one against Scouries, or the tinfoil hatted one against Laurel and the Web site--especially since I haven't posted anything that you wouldn't post as well. Glad to see that I'm still your top obsession. :D

You go, guy. :)

I stand corrected.

Guess it pays to have a lot of time to spend reading.

Or, more importantly, take the time to understand what you are reading. Whether it is a story search form in the present case with Zeb, or reading in general.

You have a mind....I never woulda guessed it. ECHO was the word I was thinking.

And the word for you is the same as it has always been. Troll.

Have fun JB, it just puts you on more and more ignore lists.
