I am a great believer in "genetic attraction".

When I started a relationship with my half sister I did not know we were related, only when she introduced me to her family I found out (quietly) from her mother that we were both her children.

It's a bit of a long story, but when mum fell pregnant she was only 17 and in the early 50s, and, as it was usual in those days, she was sent away from home to stay with an aunt and as soon as I was born I was given up for adoption.

Having believed all my life that my mother died at childbirth I never gave it a thought about trying to find her, although I do remember being told by my adoptive parents, who I love immensely, of my status when I was around 10 years old.

Fast forward 15 years and I met this wonderful woman with whom I fell in love head over heels instantly . . . then the bombshell!

Our mother wanted us to break it up immediately, neither of us wanted to, so we had to leave, moved to a different country, on a different continent and as we had different last names we got married.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary this past July, we have two wonderful children, a boy, now 36 and a girl, 34.

Our children know the truth and and have actually visited "grandmother" about 10 years ago.

Who I really feel sorry for is mum, who went for 25 years not knowing where I was, what was I up to. She confessed to me that she would have a prayer for me every day and that on my birthday she would spend the day crying her eyes out.

Wow! What a story. I'm glad you were able marry the love of your life. Maybe I didn't clarify my thoughts very well. I think there is a difference in genetic predisposition and genetic attraction. I was responding to another post and felt in my mind, that families have no genetic predisposition based on previous history.....now I agree entirely about genetic attraction. I was an only child, so I don't have sibling experiences to relate, but my attraction to my mother, aunts, and cousins was evident and resonated in me from a younger age.

I totally agree. If adults want to have sex with each other, why should their relationship to each other matter. My husband and I have sex with my 46 year old daughter and her wife (his sister) regularly.

Actually, in nearly two thirds of U.S. states first cousins can marry. Some of those states have a few restrictions, but most don't. Two of our grand-children are married to each other.

Why do so many people have problems with sexual relationships between adult family members? What goes on between consenting adults shouldn't be any one elses business. For example, a man in his early 40's gets divorced and loses his house. He moves in with his widowed mother who is in her late 50's. One day she happens to walk past his open door and sees him looking at porn and stroking himself. At first she just walks away, but then she has a second thought and goes back and gives him a "helping hand". Eventually it leads to more and they end up sharing a bed. What is the harm in it? The same could be said if it were father and daughter, or brother and sister. They are all adults. no problem.

Yeah, in her fifties there are no harm in it I think as she is already infertile. Incestuous relationships are nice and healthy until there were no pregnancies.

I never had an brothers, or sisters and never any children of my own, so it maybe just me that is confused as I don't really relate to any of this. But I do have a question. I have a situation in my life now with a father and son. I know the father wants to have sex with me and has said so and sort of forced himself on me and feels he has the right to being my passed husbands brother (I am a widow of just over 4 years). He has a son who is now 20. I suspect he also would like to be with me. I have seen him, when younger, masturbating to nude photos of me. He often uses my pool for patio/pool parties with friends at my house and I have seen how he looks at me and other times when I am sunbathing or in a bikini.
