No, not about incest as a topic, but I just posted my first story in the incest category today and holy shit!

It's only been available for eight hours and it has over 2500 views!

2500? I have stories in other categories that have been up for six months at a time and not get that.

I'm shocked and stunned. I mean, I knew incest was popular, but not having first-hand experience before now...

Many congrats to you, Judo, for having picked the winning combination. Is this going to be a trend from now on, or are you too amazed/appalled by these results to continue further in the field?

Strangely, over the past two weeks I have had perhaps 5 very vivid, very descriptive sex dreams that would make fairly decent stories. One of them was vaguely incestuous. "See? You're no better than the rest of us!" Actually, it made sense in a "in the beginning, there weren't too many people so they kinda had to inbreed" kind of way.

In my Zoology class, we briefly discussed incest and why it's forbidden in practically every culture (compare 45% birth defects from incestuous conception to 4% from non-related parents), but that's a pretty recent development. In both Greek and Norse mythology, incest was common; Zeus married his sister, fer cryin' out loud, and the Norse hero Siegfried was born of the twins Sieglinde and Siegmund. 'Course, the audience that flocks to "Incest" isn't interested in myths or heroes or "clean" taboo.

Sorry for the digression but I hate little "good job!" posts with no new substance.

The number of reads incest stories receive is amazing. Look at the all time numbers. Just a guess, but it seems like 80% of the top 200 are from the incest category.

The reasons have been discussed here before. Quick recap: Other sites don't allow incest. Some of the best stories done in this category are posted here. And, of course, a big fan base for the genre.

I am enjoying my posts in the category. Feedback emails are wild with detail and requests. Watching a story pass 70,000 reads has been pretty neat.

I posted my first story in the incest category and within 3 days it had over 30,000 views. That kind of thing is bizarre! Especially when compared to other genres.

For what it's worth

I've got a hunch, strictly an unscientific gut feeling, that different types of incest get different results. My unvalidated and totally subjective breakdown is as follows:

Parent-child incest stories seem to get the highest readership.

A close second on the list is incest between siblings.

Stories featuring aunts, uncles, and grandparents probably come in a distant third.

And the least viewed segment of the incest section appears to be stories involving cousins.

I absolutely refuse to defend any part of this list.

Here is a kicker for you. One of my first incest stories "Teasing Sister" that I posted on 04/01/01 to date it has received 63978 views. I don't know what that could mean after sitting out there for a while, but on 04/16/02 I posted "Loss of Control" and its been only 4 days and its been viewed 51944 times. Granted that they are very different stories, but I think its because more people are finding out about the site. I wonder if Lit indexes the story pages for search engines?

You have to take into consideration that the views counter has only been turned on for less than six months -- You could probably double the number of views for the story posted a year ago, although if it was off of the new stories list when the views counter was turned on, it won't have as many views as it would have collected in it's first week.

Yes, I will definitely write more incest stories. I am simply surprised at the size of the incest readership.

In fact, I have already posted a new poem called Incest Boy.

Incest is one of the fantasies I enjoy, but I had no idea that this might occur.

After having stories do quite well and only register 6 to 7 thousand reads in almost a year, then to put out one story (and late in a series at that) and have it get this kind of response in one day is just a shocker.
