Riley Summers had huge butterflies in her belly. She hadnt slept a wink the night before for fear of being late. The moment the alarm went off she popped out of the bed and all but ran to the shower. Once she was clean she stepped out she quickly blew her long dark hair dry and pulled it up into a messy bun.

She skipped all make up and put on her brand new outfit of dark navy blue pants, and a black shirt with all of the insignia upon it that she needed. Black sneakers were next and she was out the door.

She pulled into the station at 6:45 am and quickly gathered her things from her truck and walked inside. Several guys were hanging out around a large dining room table and Riley smiled a little nervously.

She was used to men staring at her. A petite girl with curves in all of the right paces, and the face of a beauty queen, she really was used to it... But these were going to be coworkers for months.

"Hey yall... Is... Uhmm... Chase Dixon around? " she asked in her soft voice laced with just a tinge of a drawl.

Chase was to be her trainer for the next few months... She had a lot to learn about being a paramedic and she hoped he would be a huge part in helping her become a great one... Whoever he was.

Sitting on the couch sipping his first cup of coffee in the morning was a ritual for Chase Dixon and his co-workers knew this. No one in their right mind would interrupt this ritual without risking his wrath. So when he heard Tom calling his name he cussed under his breath, "Tom this had better be important."

Chase wasn't actually due to be in service for another half hour so he knew it wasn't an emergency call. Standing up and to his full 6 foot height he walked towards the bay area where the ambulances were parked. Ross wasn't fully dressed wearing a pair of gym shorts and muscle tee his thick arms were in full view as was his athletic and tan legs.

Chase loved to keep in shape and though some women might call him handsome most would say he was rugged. He had been a paramedic for 16 years and started when he was twenty one though at the age of thirty seven he often felt older. Especially when some young new gung ho rookie showed up all full of piss and vinegar who needed to be taught a little lesson.

Stepping into the bay he saw his other friends and co-workers staring at this beautiful little thing that had just walked in with a brand new uniform and wearing a nervous smile. "Whoahh" he thought, "she is a knockout". The uniforms they wore were not really flattering to a woman but damn she made this one look good. It fit her body perfectly without being to tight and her face was just mesmerizing. "She probably knows this and is high maintenance" Chase thought.

He approached her and offered her his hand, "Hi I'm Chase Dixon are you my knew trainee?"

Riley turned as she heard man go and find Chase. He walked back in followed by an extremely gorgeous man and Riley's mouth went dry. No way. This hunk couldn't possibly be Chase.

And yet he walked up and extended his hand, introducing himself as just that. Riley gathered her thoughts and reached out to shake his hand. She felt a tingle run through her body at just the slightest touch of skin to skin. It was a bit disconcerting.

"Hi, yeah I'm Riley... Nice to meet you" she said, offering him a bright smile. She felt everyone's eyes on them. All conversation had halted when she entered and she glanced nervously over her shoulder at them. All of the men quickly looked away and pretended to be occupied elsewhere.

"Um... Where can I put my stuff?" She asked feeling her face threatening to turn slightly pink at the extra attention. "It's not much. Just a change of clothes".

Her tiny hand was small and completely disappeared when Chase shook it. Her skin was soft and smooth in his rough and calloused hand. "Nice to meet you Riley I'm Chase and you will be with me for the next few weeks. Come on let me show you to your locker."

He turned not noticing the others pretending not to stare and hang on each and every word. Had he looked back he would have seen every other guy in the room staring after Riley their eyes locked on her hips that spoke of dreams and fantasies.

Leading her to the female side he showed her the shower and bathroom then the door to the female lockers. "Find an empty one and use this lock for today the combination is 12-4-44 but you can bring your own tomorrow. Stow your things and meet me back in the bay so I can show you around the unit."

With that Chase turned and walked down the hall and out of view. "They get younger and prettier all the time and this one might be trouble," Chase thought to himself as he hoped his coffee was still warm.

Riley quickly found an empty locker and stashed her gear in it. She mentally prepared herself to go back out with everyone else. She has noticed one other lady out among everyone and hoped to make an ally out of her quickly. She had appeared to be a middle aged motherly sorry.

Riley sought out Chase and found him in the same room he had come from before drinking coffee.

"I'm sorry" she said. "I didn't mean to interrupt your coffee break. I could've waited" she said with a nervous smile. Even though her demeanor oozed confidence, she was nervous and eager to do everything right on her first day. It showed, even though she tried her hardest not to let it.

She stood quietly, observing him through the corner of her eye. She didn't think she could've been landed with a sexier partner. All she could do was hope and pray that he was a great teacher like she wanted.

Chase begin showing Riley where everything was located on the truck from the CID"s to the intubation supplies. He was patient and showed her the daily check sheet and how to fill it out.

Sitting close to him on the squad bench she smelled wonderful and being that close to such a beautiful young reminded him once more he was getting to damn old.

After going through the truck with a fine tooth comb he then showed her how to check out a drug box which was pre-sealed. "Any questions Riley? If not why don't we get out and let you do a bit of driving around. We will be responding as second unit in today so that you can work be the medic in the back but still have someone there if you need a little direction."

He paused then winked, "I'm sure you will be just fine."

Riley's mind was going a mile a minute as she tried to remember everything he was showing her as well as everything from school... it was so damn much, it seemed impossible. But she knew she could do it, she just had to apply herself. So she focused hard on what Chase was telling her. It really wasn't SO bad...

Then he mentioned her driving. She smiled at him.

"Ok... I think I'm ready" she said nervously.

He winked at her and she felt her face heat up slightly. Lord, he was sexy. They walked to the front of the ambulance and Riley climbed up inside of it, gazing around at the dashboard.

She had ridden before of course but never driven an ambulance... she glanced hesitantly at Chase. "Um... I dunno where to start" she said and chuckled softly. "I've never driven before."

Her shyness about driving was so damn cute it made him grin at her again.

"It's alright they told me you hadn't yet passed the EVOC course so that is what I'm going to do is get you through that."

The EVOC or emergency vehicle operators course was required to drive an ambulance and Chase just happened to have his instructors license.

The day was spent driving around town allowing her to get used to the weight and feel of the vehicle. They also practiced backing both with and without a spotter and she did quite well.

"Tomorrow we will give the obstacle course a try and if you do that then you will be ready to take your final driving test."

He then handed her a book, "Study this and when you are ready I will administer the written part of the test. One last thing you know next shift they have us both working a 24 hour shift out on the east side of town. We will be the only two crew members there so bring some movies or something to watch."

Brody smiled at her and held his hand out, "Alright I will see you next shift and it was nice to meet you. I wrote my number down on the inside cover of the book there if you have any questions call me."

Riley couldn't help but think that she had an awesome career path ahead of her as her day progressed. Chase was an excellent instructor and she was soon driving the ambulance like she had been doing it for years.

At the end of the shift, Chase handed her a booklet to study and told her his number was in it if she needed help with anything. He also told her to bring a few movies the next shift as they'd be alone. She nodded in agreement.

After shaking hands they parted ways and she headed home where she scarfed down a quick meal and began to study. A few times she had a question but chose not to disturb Chase. She could ask him in the morning.

And yet she had a real desire to call him ... To talk to him... But that was silly. He was her partner.

Chase got the news that he had been requested to do an critical care transfer of a patient the next day by ground to a hospital almost 250 miles away. The patient had suffered a stroke and the family wanted her to be moved closer to their house. Unfortunately the weather wouldn't allow for helicopters to fly and she was basically stable but did have several medications hanging and there was some potential for her to take a turn for the worse.

He had asked a few people to go with him but they all declined so he looked up Riley's number from the employee roster and called her.

The phone rang several times before she picked up, "Riley this is Chase look there is a patient that needs to be transferred to a hospital about 250 miles away. Nothing to dicey but I need someone to go with me was thinking it might be a good learning experience for you. We would drive up there spend the night and drive back the next day. So what do you think?"
