In this thread someone will explain to me

i did not move past square dancing in elementary school. i do like the big circle dance thingy, but that's because your feet can do anything as long as you're moving within the ever growing circle.

Are you talking about the Hokey-Pokey? We used to do the hokey pokey on skates at the roller rink. It was only part of my conditioning though. We also skated under a strobe light. It was like training for futuristic, violent, game shows like The Running Man.

When I was in grade school we did square dancing. In high school, Iowa changed their Physical Education curriculum to line dancing. Boot Scootin Boogie is forever burned into my memory. I absolutely hated it. We had a shit kickin PE teacher that instructed. Mother of pearl button western shirts, giant belt buckle, tight wrangler jeans, cowboy hat and boots, the whole get up. Only thing missing was the pair of work gloves in his back pocket and the piece of straw hanging from his mouth.

Line dancing! its safer than mains dancing due to the lower voltage, three phase is for experts only, excluding polish who can only handle 110.

Why do you do it? its worth it just to see the looks on the bouncers faces as you get 'escorted' off the dance floor at a heavy rock disco for line dancing to ''The Ace of Spades'' by Motorhead.

Why do you enjoy doing it? it keeps one physically fit and able to run very very fast.

How often do you do it? quite often, but its not a numerical thing.

Is there a class/status thing within it? Yes. Much like the Masons.

The Fuzzy Duck is one awesome step.

i'm talking bullshit.

i have never been coordinated enough to hokey pokey on roller skates, but i know the strobe light. the roller rink can be a wild place.

dolf! the big circle thing. except people dancing in groups in a big circle. or dancing in a big snake line. one one two two forward repeat

do you ever have flashbacks to the rink? i want to see dolf on skates.

Combine line dancing and roller skates and you got boogie skating. I remember those days......

My first thought was country line dancing but I forgot the electric slide at bars.

Line dancing is one of the few dances that can be done with an imbalance of sexes.

Most dances require a partner of the opposite sex as a foil. But line dancing can be too many men, too many women or whatever.

There are other dances that are male or female only but line dancing doesn't care.

I would have loved that dance when I was ten. I was well versed though, cussed like a sailor from single digits. I'm certain I've done it during one Czech wedding reception or another when I was wee.

I do sort of flashback to the roller days sometimes. I have this waking dream where fierce, penetrating light emanates out from a disco ball in sharp beams that begin to bend and wind around each other. They come together and fill my eyes like tornados of light shoving my head backward. I barely manage to get my skates off, but I still can't manage to get my feet under me, I reach down and feel my feet... and my heel and toes have become large glittery wheels. *shivers.... It's taken more than one suicide from the soda fountain to forget that memory.

I cosign anything with boogie in the title. It seemed even cooler back in the day. The lights were low, the boogie was strong, there was always a wildcard stumbler or two.

Have you been lately? Now the kids look like little geriatrics with walkers on wheels to keep them upright. It's hilariously adorable.

I can't tell you how many skating injuries I sustained from avoiding a wobbler. Good times.
