Line dancing!

Why do you do it?
Why do you enjoy doing it?
How often do you do it?
Is there a class/status thing within it?

I don't but my sister is a clogger, a nationally known clogging instructor actually. And my niece does the line dancing thing. She's part of a group that dances for parades and other public celebrations, like our local Irrigation Festival.

My sister likes it and has been doing it for 18 years. My niece started as a clogger but formed the dance group and puts all her energy into that.
Why? I don't know but they seem to enjoy doing it.
How often? My sister does it twice a week, my niece the same.
Class status within it? I haven't a clue.

Line dancing happens at the big events I’m involved with. I do think they can be a fun part of community building, especially if no one involved is taking it too seriously.

Line dancing can be fun at weddings.

[I don't do it.]

It represents, as posted above, a sense of community and sharing
out in rural America where everyone knows everyone
and gatherings are smallish; intimate.

What we don't get is cotillion...

Dancing started as a mating ritual. Men show their physical and mental ability by dancing for hours and still having new moves. Providing for a family now is more financial than hunting with a sharp stick.

Like inbreeding?

Additional cultural information

Country music line dancing in rural America provides an excellent opportunity for homophobic cowboys to get drunk, fuck another cowboy, and then go back to acting homophobic the next day. Later on, the only thing they remember is the name burnished on the back of that cowboy's belt, the one who bucked like a wild bronco during the mating ritual.

It's essentially a social service that supports the American ranching welfare system by providing an outlet for that particular portion of the sexually-frustrated Republican base.

i did not move past square dancing in elementary school. i do like the big circle dance thingy, but that's because your feet can do anything as long as you're moving within the ever growing circle.
