In the news.

Exactly, pure Streisand Effect.
Plus, you aren't going to get much sympathy from a jury. "It's these people's fault we got caught cheating, we deserve money from them!"

Get a few married or divorced women on that jury and that's going nowhere.
Something I'm don't feel I'm understanding correctly.

People blame the band, but as I said earlier, I don't think they control the kiss cams, that's the venue that does that, right? They just happened to pan up to the boxes.

Now kiss cam vids are rising in searches on YT. There was one funny one where it lands on this guy and woman and he holds up a sign "She's my sister!" and my first thought was....wait, is that a taboo plot bunny?

I remember that one, was a basketball game in the Midwest somewhere. The local news channel actually tracked them down and did a story about it.

My personal favorite they zoomed in on a "couple". They both start looking embarrassed, shaking their heads. The guy starts pointing to the other side of the woman. Camera zooms out a bit, there's another guy there with a big grin, woman turns toward him and they kissed.

The stupid doers are the ones getting all bent out of shape over something they should have shrugged off as none of their business.

It would be an even BETTER T/I plot bunny if he pulled out the sign, and then STILL gave her a big kiss in front of the whole crowd.
Yeah, I realized this after posting. Still, I’m not sure if most T/I readers could suspend their disbelief enough to see the couple get out of that stadium without at least some repercussions.

We wonder where the commenters on LW come from. Seems to be a few on this thread.
Here's the difference, and I said this in a post here. The hyenas you're talking about become enraged and unhinged over fictional women cheating on fictional men and on an erotic story site where a hot wife and even cheating is seen as a kink and like taboo or NC one that most people know this isn't proper behavior outside of fantasy.

These people are real people screwing around on their spouses and they got caught, and unfortunately for them in go big or go home and pack fashion.

I don't see why its a huge deal other than the over the top reaction from them, but I also don't see the need to feel bad for them.

This is the meaning of the shirt my daughter bought me for father's day... that I really can't wear to many places, but still cool.

Without merit. I hope the couple sues the bigmouth from the band.
Which couple? The ex-CEO and the head of HR? The CEO and his (presumably soon to be ex-) wife? The head of HR and her (presumably soon to be ex-) husband? Some other permutation of spouses? And on what grounds would they sue? 🤣

I'd like to see the four of them show up together and stuff this all back in the face of the media and the busybodies.
Maybe you should write this! You can put it in the Celebrity category. 😂

That doesn't mean the band turd needs to be calling attention to it and making jokes publicly.

Only FOUR people should be talking about this at all. Only FOUR.
Two rich and privileged people decided to flaunt their illicit relationship status in public. If they didn't want to get caught, maybe they shouldn't have engaged in overt PDA in a public setting where anyone with a cell phone or a camera can just point it at them. 🤷‍♀️

Had anyone heard of this Astronomer company beforehand? There's rumours it was a marketing stunt...

If they hadn't suddenly leapt apart, looking guilty as sin - or over-acting? - hardly anyone would have cared, probably even their spouses.

I hear the cool nightclubs nowadays have either a no-phone policy, or a sticker over the lenses policy. Some theatres have gone for no phones, and phone crèches like in the 1990s are making a comeback in restaurants. Will be interesting to see how people work to reclaim private moments in the next decades.

Or, just claim any photos of them are just AI and it never happened?
I actually applied for a job last or the prior week - Pretty sure hiring is frozen now

Strip clubs don't allow cameras and he assumption it's so no one films the dancers, but only a dope doesn't know it's so none of the guys there getting lap dances-and more in the back rooms-are outed to their spouses or girlfriends.

I don't know about this being a ploy seeing they've both been put on leave and supposedly he's stepping down.

On a different note that's why it drives me crazy that there are morons out there who think those videos of women blowing and screwing male strippers are real. If that stuff happens no one is filming it. same for Fake Taxi, the one with the real estate agents etc..

I had this argument with someone who wouldn't let it go to the point I went to the damn Dancing Bear pornhub page and dug around until I found videos featuring known porn stars as the "bride to be" and horny women and showed them to him.

If it were just two otherwise unrelated people having an affair, sure, the only people whose business it is would be them, their partners and maybe their kids.

But a secret relationship between the CEO and the head of HR? That's a problem for everybody working for or investing in that company.

My policy where I work is "Do not tell me why you want time off, I don't care, if there's coverage, you're good, enjoy your time! Just bring me a doctor's note if you want to use 3 or more days in a row of sick time. Mental health counts as a valid reason for taking sick days. Just talk to your doctor, not me."
In Australia the normal language for a medical certificate is something like "I, [doctor] certify that Jane Doe was unable to work from [date] to [date] due to a medical condition", which is all the employer needs to know.

But good to be explicitly legitimising mental health days. IME a lot of people feel reluctant to take them, even if they don't have to disclose reasons, and trying to soldier on rarely works out for either employee or employer in the long run.

I have never understood cheating, not just from a moral standpoint, but how do they never think they'll get caught at some point?

This is one of those statistics that no one's entirely sure of, because who's going to admit it, you know? But there's strong evidence that most people who cheat don't get caught, especially if they're careful about how they do it.

Yep. It’s peak stupidity and they deserve every meme. They weren’t just messing with their personal lives, but the reputation of their company and the welfare of their employees. When you roll the dice like that, you take the consequences.

And all for a Coldplay experience? FFS - at least they could have been a bit classier….

What's funny (to me) is that one of the subplots for over the past year in my active story series is the CEO and VP of HR gettin' it on. Twist in that one is the CEO's wife is fully aware and participates in their ménage à trois.

Too bad the Coldplay couple couldn't have thought that far ahead. 😈

I'm reasonably sure that extramarital dalliances are far more common than most know, whether the partners are aware or not.

Your own spouse may be doing or have done something.

Nobody asked for it. Nobody wants it. But that's what I'm here for. A lukewarm defense of Coldplay.

In retrospect, I figure I'm just exactly the correct age to have thought Coldplay was cool at one point. Part of that is a function of my time spent in fundamentalist christianity as a teen, and Coldplay was one of the only 'secular' bands that was socially acceptable to listen to and talk to your friends about, which makes sense because most of the christian music from that era is very obviously trying to be Coldplay. Anyway, with that excuse made, my defense.

Parachutes is an excellent album. No skips. Very coherent sound. The hidden track is dope. It's not edgy, it's not doing anything groundbreaking, but it is excellent at what it is trying to do.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is more hit and miss. I think this is about the only album they ever took a risk on, and sadly it didn't pan out. It has some of their best songs ever, and some of their most forgettable songs, too. The sound didn't change a ton from Parachutes, and I expect that's the lesson they took going forward...

X&Y is where the transition from a primarily guitar-driven to a primarily synth-driven sound starts. This ends up being pretty critical, but in context it just felt like time passing. Much like ARoBttH, it's a solid mix of great and completely forgettable.

Viva la Vida was the shit. Their attempt at a concept album. The synth-driven sound is in full force, but still backed up by some excellent guitar work. There is a very wide range of sounds on the album and yet it still coheres into something that feels like a loose narrative arc. This is made even better by the Prospekt's March EP, and the inspired re-release of both with interwoven tracks that feels like it was how the album ought to have been released in the first place, occasionally with some re-mixed songs that are simply better than the original recordings (Life in Technicolor II, Lovers In Japan (Osaka Sun Mix), Lost+). Overall, this album cycle was the peak.

And then we got Mylo Xyloto. Nary a guitar to be heard. Still a couple decent songs (Charlie Brown, Princess of China), but the singles were hot garbage and it was clear the direction was not for me.

I basically stopped listening after that, and from what I've heard, that seems like the right decision for me. Looking back at it, they were always chasing industry trends, it's just that 2000-2008 era of trend-chasing was more what I wanted from them. Hard to be mad at them for that, and I see that says a lot more about me than them. With more context and age, I can say confidently that Imagine Dragons tried to copy Colplay's approach 10 years later of inoffensive pop-rock trend chasing, and I've always strongly believed Coldplay did and always has done that better.

They were smart enough to see that pop-rock was about to stop existing, and had the foresight to become something else in time not to get swept into irrelevance. I might find that personally disappointing, but it is impressive in it's way. They've managed to put out some legitimately artful stuff on occasion even whilst trend-chasing, and I think that deserves some measure of praise.

Coldplay: not the best, but a consistently decent presence in pop music for 25 years. Which is a surprisingly rare thing. And I happened to be aged appropriately for their peak to hit me at a formative time in my life.

That's typically the doctor's note I get as well, and it's all I need. The reason I stress mental health days is because many of my coworkers think you have to be running a fever and/or throwing up for it to count as a sick day.

I remind them every time that it's for all health related issues, from a family member being sick to just being overwhelmed and can't face the world. All valid, all acceptable. I only need the note for three or more days in a row and they can tell their doctor they were overwhelmed for a few days and couldn't go to work, get the note, turn it in, my boss is happy and all's good.

I've had the convo so many times at this point I'm starting to think my coworkers just like hearing me explain it as I'm trying very hard to get them to read between the lines of "treat is as vacation days, but don't tell me it's for vacation days. If you tell me that, I have to make you use vacation days and sick days are the only ones that can't be paid out if you're fired or you quit. Use the bank you lose first."
