It takes two
to conceive, one
to give birth, too often
the singularity persists

when Woman becomes both
mother and father, forced
through fate or circumstance
to nurture new life alone

navigate unknown waters
with only will and wile
and the strength of love
to chart safe passage

She is captain and crew,
cool headed amongst chaos
comforting and serene
keeping counsel with herself

doubts and fears,
sit below in the hold, shadows
to be faced at journey's end
when anchored by safety's embrace

Sometimes supplies run short,
tempers flare, authority is challenged
as seas turn turbulent,
determined to wreak havoc

Resilience and desire arise,
take stand at center deck
to face forward and face down
the storms of everyday

In time, Her charges learn,
lend their hands as well as heart
to ease her burden, scatter clouds
so sunlight can soak them all

Warmth replaces the chill
of cold isolation, as children
come of age, return the blessings
love and sacrifice have blossomed

I Think I Get It, Mom,

Pain can't factor in this decision
to love the cause of such agony.
Instead let memories of pleasure
delight and colour a relationship

began before the labour
of bearing down; bringing forth
a treasure of stored potential
joy, suffering, love and pride.

Show your smile as future payment
for all of this and the greatest gift
that's mine to give; knowledge
that you have done your best.

very beautiful...wish I caught these before mothers day :) . The single mother theme is very strong and deserves respect.

I thought this was a beautiful tribute, thank you my friends for remembering ... mothers.

I know I am a bit late and I have not written in a while but I have to share : On Mother's Day I attended church with my children. At the end of the service the pastor asks that each child, or family of children come up and pick out a flower for their mother. They were then to say something about their mother and present the flower to her ...

I cannot tell you how touched I was and still am by my children. I now have the four and am still walking this path alone but ... I have so much heart wrenching, never ending love and compassion for each and everyone. Although they each seem to walk a separate path, they always end up together, forming a circle around one another always, seemingly ... one.

I thought of this song, for myself and yes, it lends itself a bit to the kids too ...

The Rose
Bette Midler

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you it's only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the sould afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the winter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

......

Thank you again, for letting me share ...
I truly hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day ...
