In honour of Indepence Day, who better here than annaswirls ?

From the new poems yesterday:

I really love this poet's work. If you have not yet checked it out, please do. Sometimes deceptively simple, sarcastic or cynical, but always in tune with bits of humanity that often go unnoticed or un-noted.

dorksicle

At great personal risk to her professional poet's standing, anna has promoted various and sundry off beat authors.

They have included bogusbrig

seanelson

4degrees

and a long time ago in a thread far away Darth1201 who preformed a small theftage of Billy Blake "thy fearful symetry" (WTF he's dead) to describe the wonders of frogs fucking, which now resides elsewhere.

I don't think there is a MFA workshop authour in the bunch, "Make it New" as E. Pound once said. It is one thing to see patterns that every one knows about, not so easy, once it goes outside the lines.

I owe her, not only for that, but for writing some of the most inspirational poetry done in a completely original way. "Is poetry dying?" someone asked, I don't think so, not with the likes of her about.

I hope to become her harshest critic, because I believe the essence of poetry resides in her. Not "poetics", others are better at that. Techique is a tool in the service of the Art. But it is the Art that is important, even if it looks flawed.

We see what we see. Take a look at some of the threads started by annaswirls, I owe, others owe.
If I wasn't such a lazy bastard, I would follow her advice.

Happy Indepence Day, anna
:rose: :rose: :rose:
May someday, I write something that is worthy of you.

Ditto this. Anna has great natural talent and her poetry is a joy to read. There are others here I feel that way about, too. We're all lucky to be around each other. We're all lucky to learn from each other. :)

I can only echo that, I have found her poetry not only beautiful and exceptional but inspirational! If I can learn to be half as good as her I would be happy with that!

Praise to you annaswirls
:rose:

I have to join the line paying homage.

Not just a talent for writing but a talent for spotting a good poem and I'm not referring to me but to dorksicle, who I missed.

Rock on!

Praise, praise. :rose:
(if the coffee had kicked in, I'd have more to say... too much. :))

further praise

yes. she does deserve this thread.

*stands to join the love-fest* She's talented, sweet and consistently encouraging. I  La Swirls.

I refuse!! - But only because if I start I won't stop, and there are far too many others that I would then have to praise. Hopefully they all know how I feel about them and their writings. I am pretty sure Jenn does, and I hope everyone else does too.

(Did you know that Literotica censors certain words? Try typing the following word (without any internal spaces) in a post. What is the matter with L y m a n? Is it Manu's real name perhaps? Inquiring mimes want to know! (They are outside having an imaginary pie fight in a street fair right now.)

Why quite handily, of course (or if with Italian street signing, "of coarse".). :p ;) :rose:

jennifer - i think you misinterpreted what Rybka said. i think he was praising anna, and also others, in his own way.

and i'll certainly join in here to praise anna/seattle/jen vb for all the inspiration she provides here, and to me personally.

and if you haven't visited her web journal, which she is doing wonderful things with and which grows on a daily basis, here's the link: mannequin envy

happy Independence Day to one of the most independent people i've ever met.

*hands Jennifer a chill pill.

Maybe you should take some time to get to know Rybby? It'd be worth your while, I promise.

I'm not entirely sure what he meant, but if it was a pop at me for whatever reason I don't really think this was the appropriate thread to do it in. This thread is to show appreciation for a poet who we clearly all admire, not to have a pop at the ones we dont!

In My Opinion!

Rybka wasn't referring to you, Jenn C.

blame it on the AV

:)

You would not have any way of knowing my name, it was a simple mistake. Already forgotten I am sure :)

And Rybka was one of the first people here to grab me as a new poet and shake me up, have high expectations of my work, and give me recognition, even when I might not have deserved it, so I think that was the basis for the post-- he has praised (and held to a high standard!) my writing. Makes corrections on my spigot material and the latitudinal location of the Northern Lights and what kind of wood a farmer would burn in a wood stove :D ! So it is not unconditional, but definately constructive.

Thanks Rybka :)

Thank you 1201, I am humbled. As I have said before, I hope someday to write myself worthy of your praise. As far as praise of my taste in new poets, I will take that :) I love reading new poets that come here with an unconventional voice or style or view. I do not do it as often as I used to or as often as I would like, and sometimes do it privately, but when new talent comes in I want to grab them and hold on!

I understand that it is difficult to praise an individual sometimes, I have felt that in other Praise "fill in the blank with terrific people" threads that have come before. :cattail:

And 1201 you do not need to follow any advice, I saw in the first poem you posted here something unique and a new twist on not only noticing the absurdity of our own humanality (humanity? ) but also your own individual voice I had not heard before. Wide Screen remains one of my all time favs.

Okay Ifeel like this has been a kick in my ass to get out and start writing a poem or something.

damn.

~Jennifer/anna etc.

For Jenn C, SeattleRain is also annaswirls is also someone else (that I thought was an idiot once.) and may be yet another person here.

This is what Rybka had to say about thanking MET for an mention of his poem, he mentions her beside the red door as an inspiration

Rybka said:
Thank you My Erotic Tale for your kind and generous review.
And thank you to those of you who have left kind words and positive comments on my poem Liver Spots. It is a rewrite of an earlier version that I was inspired to revisit after reading SeattleRain’s beside the red barn door, and recently undergoing snowmelt.
Where Anna saw the expanding green of a new growing season and wonderfully likened it to the spreading effect of a poet’s words upon the world, when I looked out my window I saw not green but spots of brown. The harbinger of mud and the end of a season. – When you grow old enough you may begin to understand why the elderly dislike change and hold onto things without which they would be better off. Change means loss means death, and the old know they are no longer immortal and there is no season of rebirth for them. The redbird sings for himself not to me. My ‘glory days’ are spent and gone well bye. Winter is an old man and I too have spots on my hands. I know that time when there the grass will grow.
