Hm... it seems that only applies to dialup (so much for Microsoft's diagnostic tool). System restore didn't seem to help, but when I called customer service the recorded message said they'd been "experiencing problems across the network due to the aftereffects of tropical storm Barry". Guess I'll be here off and on until the cable guy gets over here.
