I have been on this site for a while and have gotten way more personal with some guys than I ever intended. Now I find myself backing off when someone seems legitimately in me. It's like I lost my bravery and retreated back into the shy little nerd I was when I first joined. I have been burned a few times...not sure what to do. Any advice would be welcome.

Maybe focus on quality vs. quantity; really getting to know someone you're interested better and doing your best to ensure they have a legitimate interest in you as a whole person (vs. sexual gratification) before you take it any further? You might still get burned, but that's a risk with anyone (online or off), and at least you' can take comfort in the thought that you did your best to mitigate that risk.

It's human nature to be cautious when you've been burned and your heart gets a little ding in it.

I guess it depends where you are emotionally now and what you want in life. Only you can answer the tough questions.

:)

We've all been burned whether here online or in real life. It's always good to be a bit cautious in the beginning, but the hard part is the fine line between cautious and stand-off'ish. If someone is genuine, they will understand taking baby steps because they too may have also been burned before. The key is not retreating entirely. I've found a few really great contacts here but I've also been caught in the "guy posing as a girl" scam as well. I just chalk it off to their problem not mine and don't let it get to me.

Remember what brought you to Lit in the first place. I take breaks from this place often and when I do, I read lots of stories because that is what made me find this site. When I think about why I started posting I tend to revert back to that when I take a break. As for caution sometimes that's a good thing. That might be your rational brain taking over? Just enjoy Lit for what it is and stay within your comfort zone and enjoy. There is enough to worry about in the real world without letting it get to you when you are somewhere that should be fun or enjoyable.
