i can see the appeal for some, especially if you want to frame it in terms of a warning to white supremacists that they'll not get away with hunting down another person as that person can then legally defend themselves with lethal force in 'self-defense'

having said that, i'd say it was a very bad idea–and is–to allow ANYONE to bring weapons to a protest march and that anyone, marchers or opposition present, should be hit with the full weight of the law if discovered to be carrying firearms of any sort. period. People are perfectly able to utilise all manner of handy objects as weapons should they decide to (and, again, should be prosecuted for doing so), but the presence of guns makes for an even more volatile situation. Rittenhouse was damned lucky he got away with his life after shooting those 2 and confronted by the third, surviving, man with a gun in hand. Next time he isn't likely to be so lucky.
