$In God We Trust$

Wassup with this being on US currency?

Same as "One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

The actual rationalization is that no single religion was being supported or being given any power of decision making in the government.

Old guys, i.e. founders, thought God really existed.

They thought slavery was good too.

Otherwise, they were ok.

Not really the same.

Under god was inserted intot he Pledge Of Allegiance by COngress in 1953 (I think that was the year). it wasnt always there and has since been frequently omitted.

The 'In God We Trust' feels so arbitrary, unnecessary, and out of place on our currency.

True about the rationale for such inclusion. Its the one often cited but its still incorrect.

Actually, they were ambivalent on slavery.

But it does lead to cute signs that read

"In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash"

The 'God' nonsence was a reaction to Communism...we all think McCarthyism was a good idea, right?

Only for purposes of determining congressional representation.

I can't tell if you're just letting me know you got my little reference or if you're just in a very serious mood tonight.

edit: I guess it's the first option.

And your point is?...

Is this just another bash America thread, or what? What do you care if that inscription is on the money you use. "God" is generic to me as meaning anyone's definition of a god in their particular faith. Would you prefer "Allah?" I'd thought more people would object to,"Novou Ordo Seclourum, or, New order of the ages or New Age Order" on the greenbacks.

Dammit man, we are talking money here. Think of it as the means to obtain free-range babes. Barring that, hookers.

Of course I'm being serious.

Remove head from rectum.

Am I bashing America by asking about its currency?

I'd prefer the phrase not be there.

I think the idea is that since we don't have the gold standard anymore, our money's worth is only supported by faith.

Full faith and credit actually. Which is all that supports any monetary system if you think about it.

unless i'm sadly mistaken, and i have been before, in god we trust is the official motto of the united states. ergo, it has every right to be on our currency. if it really offends you mr. mouse you can send all of yours to me 'cause i kinda like the motto.:D

*laughing* that's true.

I think it would matter to me if I wasn't religiously apathetic. Does it matter to me that someone else is offended, only if they think it means church and state aren't seperate.

Church and state are seperate because we dont' have a national religion and no one is being killed or imprisoned for worshipping differently.

If anything, it's a history lesson. Change it like we've changed our flag, to keep up with the reality of our existence.

my two cents.
