does the party become, in a sense, God? And is that why all personal freedoms that we take for granted are virtually nonexistent in those countries?

Let me see if i remember this correctly...

Socialism.....everyone own's everything and you take what you need, when you need it.

Comunism... the government owns everything and they give you what you need when they think you need it.

so under comunism the government runs your life....

...eather God or Master.... both words would fit...

Only for kiss-ass party nerds. For everyone else, no. Same thing as corporate America and high school.

Because it's a stupid system based on 19th century "radical" theories about finance that have no practical application in a society larger than 50 people, and a system no populace would long endure without a heavy thumb. State-sanctioned Atheism is just another way of rubbing the fur of human psyche the wrong way in an abortive attempt to control allegiances.

There's the party line...

...and then there are realities.

When you say countries do you mean the government or the people. In the case of the latter both China and Russia have rich, religious cultures embracing many ethnic beliefs.

Marx suggested that religion was the opiate of the people. He was probably right, but a country's religious views seldom live up to what the government hopes for.
