I just stopped by to check my e-mail and saw a couple of posts about PC issues.

NOTHING is free. I don't want to make anyone paranoid, but from a technical stand point, you wouldn't believe the little footprints you leave wherever you go and what becomes of them.

Likewise, you wouldn't believe the crap that gets on your computer in some places. Especially if you are downloading files from free porn websites.

I don't expect everyone to rush out and become computer geeks to assuage their fears and "a little learning is a dangerous thing" but if you are truly concerned, use some common sense.

Most sites are benign, but there are assholes out there and like everyone else, they want a piece of the pie.

Can u spell T-R-O-J-A-N?

Be safe, be smart.

That's why I get my free porn off of newsgroups. No strings attached!

You have a fucking couch? Wow... if only I had furniture dedicated to that one purpose... ;)

Oh yeah, I've got a fucking couch too, complete with fucking pillows and two fucking arm rests.

The ladies especially love the fucking arm rests, they can stradle them between their legs and have a good ol'e fucking time. :D

I discovered something today...

1. Click on TOOLS on the menu bar
2. Click on INTERNET CONNECTIONS
3. Click on PRIVACY
4. Click on ADVANCED

Next I checked the box:

OVERRIDE AUTOMATIC COOKIE HANDLING

and in the left hand column I checked the box next to ACCEPT

and in the right hand column I checked the box next to PROMPT.

What this has been doing since I made the alterations is allowing me to go into my first choice sites, but prompts if I want accept cookies from third party sites which want to place a cookie on my computer.

I'm still playing around with it but so far I've blocked cookies from third party sites which have looked definitely suspicious.

The INFO button on the PROMPT window is very informative and gives a very good idea of what is trying to place a cookie on your computer, the duration the cookie will stay there, the name of the site where the cookie originated and so on.

The only nuisance value I've found so far is that when I'm in the first site, it might need a cookie from a third party to carry out its own function. But after I went into a few of my regular sites a couple of times I got used to that and on the PROMPT window I just clicked on ALLOW.

:)

Great Advice...but.

Great advice PP Man, but thats only a feature in Internet Explorer 6

How about Linux? I use Linux, and I (used to) surf for porn a lot... I have my browser (Konqueror) set to ask me what to do whenever a cookie request is sent, and I almost always reject them. But does anyone know if there are any trojans like what were described that affect Linux? I have never had any such problem... but then, maybe that's because I surf differently? I mean, perhaps I know what not to click on? Just curious...
