First Amendment is still working just fine, as he wasn't punished by government. He was punished by his boss for making them look bad.

Indeedio. The right to say whatever you want in public doesn't give you the right to a major media outlet to do so.

If it does, I want a prime time talkshow.

Do you think he would have been fired it he said the Duke lacrosse players were horny rich boy honkies who though with their wieners?

Anybody besides me think he needs a makeover?

He probably did say that at one point.

The point is, those Duke lacrosse players already look bad in public's eyes. Maybe he'd be suspended, tops. But he wouldn't be fired.

I think he needs a makeover too. A haircut at first. This isn't the 80's!!

I would have fired him for the cowboy hat a long time ago.

No, actually I shouldn't say anything. I never heard the guy and don't know a thing about him, whether he was teasing or what. I just took a look at that cowboy hat and couldn't take him seriously from the getgo.

I just can't take anyone in a cowboy hat seriously.

A cowboy hat in NYC. Please.

He was trying to be funny. I think he's one of those curmudgeons who insults everybody equally.

CBS knew he was a racist jack off when they hired him, but he got ratings and sold advertising. Now that the advertisers started pulling out because of public outcry, they fired him for doing the very same thing he's been doing all along, only nobody complained.

You're right. Well, it's off to satellite radioland for him now.

Personally, I wouldn't fire someone over this. Even if I was 100% against what they said. I consider it free advertizing, and then I would toss in some of my own ads saying just what an asshole I hired and how glad I am that he is running his mouth off.

Maybe that's why I don't own any radio stations?...

True, FD. But the other issue is race.
Yes...African Americans vs. Caucasians, successful African American women vs. horny Caucasian dudes...err....

I don't like Imus. I have refused to listen to him for years. That said, I saw a great deal more integrety on his part in his appologies than I can ever see in Reverands Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton threatening NBC and CBS with pickets and demonstrations if he was not fired. That tactic is more out of line than anything Imus said.

Frankly, I saw the Rutgers girls basketball team get their asses whipped. They looked like a bunch of bush-leaguers and deserved to lose. I'm wondering how much of their feelings of that loss was behind the venom they were spreading.

Imus' remark was "nappy-headed hos". Ok. Nappy-headed means they have kinky hair. Isn't that true? The only thing they had to bitch about was "Hos" and that was never investigated. To be honest, the word was probably an error. He should have said "BITCHS" and let themselve prove him correct.

A note for the Reverands Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton - you've obviously forgotten, so you really should go back and read Mt 26:28. If you need more references, I have them.

Yes, he is. Except that he hit a big ol' nerve with this one- calling a group of young, hard-working, promising, scholarly women- oh, and did I say young? "nappy-headed ho's" just isn't going to make you many friends of any stripe.

Cutting your own throat is an occupational hazard when you make your living by knife-edge humor.

This is such an abuse of rhetoric. What fucking white man uses the term nappy-headed without the derogatory connotation; attach it to 'ho' and you've got a fucking racist (no different than Mel Gibson or that Seinfeld guy).

As for how the girls played, badly or fuck all, it was nought to do with anything. I don't care if they're spewing vitriol, the proof is in the racist turd's language. And who cares about Jackson's or Sharpton's attitudes except white people.
