On the AH is a thread entitled Plug your own Poem. It appears to be used by only a very few regular poets but is nonetheless clearly used a lot by the 'irregulars'

Some poets might care to attract a wider audience through that means because it is a pity that many poems have few readers and fewer comments. Alternatively reviewers could perhaps post their reviews there as well. Given that the AH generally has about 4 times the users the poetry board has it might be a means of expanding your audience. :)

ChilledVodka has only one poem with an "H" mark.

Does that mean the rest of his poems are crap?

Is it an Impressive Plug Thread because it was started by Impressive or because it's just that great? Inquiring minds want to know. :D

Either way, here's the link.

its a nice thought, but sometimes when poets go tiptoing thru the GB, they step in stuff or pick up trolls..its just not worth the few extra votes....

NO, not at all...it just means that maybe he didnt get the required 10 votes, orthe votes and a minimal score or 4.5. At the risk of starting the dreaded vote discssion, again, God forbid, an H doesnt necessarily denote teh quality of a poem. I have had crap poems that got an H and good ones that didnt. Lots of marvelous poets here dont have a lot of H's...doesnt mean their work is crap:) read CV's work, and vote, let your song be heard too!! dont just go by the H's and E's...you'll miss some wonderful poetry:)

I take your point . It's a pity that the first comment by songcatcher started talking about votes which should not matter at all and wasn't the objective in the first instance. I'm just naive enough to think it would be good to attract more poetry readers though I can see the possiblities of a downside.

The AH 'ers however might consider themselves a better bet than the GB 'ers!!!

I agree on the idea of getting more readers from the non-poetry population. More readers in general, to me, is a good thing. I have met a number of really good people who have supported my writing from the non-poet sectors or lit.

One way to achieve such a goal would be for Literotica itself to at least mention the WORD "POETRY" on the opening page. It is so well hidden, it is a miracle that anyone finds their way here at all.

I have recommended such an addition (one word) to Laurel, but I suppose it is too difficult to change the index page?

Maybe we just need a poetry in general plug.

ps H's mean nothing in the realm of quality. Certainly high quality poems often get that H. I finally put my money where my mouth is and turned off voting. IT FEELS GREAT!!!! no matter what people say, there is no way that voting doesn't matter if you keep it on. Ideally of course, but... I think we are all human here :) although I have seen many superhero powers.... hmmm.... curious.

While stories often get MANY votes, poems do not, and any one vote thrown in by emotion alone can skew the average.

I think it is a sweet idea to include the poetry reviews on other boards. Or at least the link. Me, I just plug my site :) shamelessly mannequinenvy.com I am so proud of the contributors I cannot help myself

Oh god, the thermometer question, I reserve the right to 75, if I feel someone has posted something with grievous errors and they should know better, they deserve it. I support those that do so, as long as they have a reason for it. 50 for shameless pandering and pomposity, if its not funny.
It like everything else is a tool, if used right, it provides information, feedback, besides with just a few more votes...
Hello anna!

The real war is to get people to write better, when they write better, they begin to see what makes better writing regardless of style. I don't think getting more "readers" is the answer, I think getting more writers to comment may be. You post, you comment, if you think your poetry is so god damn wonderful, I'm sure your comments will be too. I've learned lot from comments, I gotten some excellent feedback from comments. I hope I left a few good ones.

you have to make a distinction, between making people aware, and shamelessly plugging
although...I'm guilty..of plugging...2nd degree...it wasn't premeditated...honest

Hi 12--

DONT start that discussion again PLEASE!

:)

That was not what this was about.....K? Just about when one perceives themselves to be a poet....

Most of my poems have an H and I think they are crap... except for the ones that allowed me to use other people's lines and "Teacher", which I wrote with Mutt amongst my submissions.

oooo, look at all the H's, 1201 turning green with envy

Really Gina, this is a much better attitude to have, than thinking what you wrote was perfect, or even good, look for the faults, look for different ways to look at your work. Say what you want to say and say it the best way you can. You lead the audience, looking at H's you let the audience lead you. It is YOU, that has to live with your work, you let the audience lead you, they'll leave.

you are going to keep it up till I put in a sigline aren't you?

ANNASWIRLS ROCKS MORE

I have noticed....that there is a sort of "Lit homogenous blend poetry" and if a poet stays away long enough, doesnt read the usual postings here, then they write, the style if not the quality of their work improves. I think there is so much competition here but damages individuality and that is evident in the shorter line styles, and then there is always that sappy, oh god when will He/she love me, whaaaa make ya puke poetry, lol, I have written plenty of it before I was taught better by some of the poets here.

And Anna, I am Bat Girl,. I Have always had super powers.Im not kidding...
