Imgur is changing their policy to remove nsfw pics so I started using reblogme to embed pics and gifs here. I just noticed today that the reblogme pics and gifs that I inserted on Lit are now broken links. I tried embedding a pic today and got this message:

Does that mean that Lit is blocking the pics and gifs from Reblogme or is Reblogme blocking them?

Paste the image URL into a blank browser window and see whether Reblogme sends you the image or a webpage with the image in it.

Or some other webpage. I keep getting a login page. There's no way Lit's image loader is going to overcome that.

Every reblogme pic and gif that I posted for the past couple weeks showed up on Lit with no problems until today.

Maybe because you were logged in to reblogme? Or maybe because reblogme coincidentally changed their hot linking policy effective today, idk.

All I know is I can't load your picture, even when I have the link and not trying to look at one you embedded.

So even if you could see them, it doesn't seem like you can reliably know that anyone else will. I'm for damn sure not going to register and log in just to see someone's embedded forum images.

Just for clarification, when you clicked on the link provided, do you get some sort of error message or do you get a blank screen?

When I use Lit's "insert image" button to embed an image or gif, I get the message that I posted above in an earlier post. Prior to today, everybody was able to see the images and gifs that I embedded from Reblogme. I am currently logged in to Reblogme but the embedded pics and gifs that are on Lit now look like this to me:

Here's what I get:

Seems it's all empty here. Please follow some users or search content.

Remember that most of the mass of images you post, you do NOT have the legal right to post. That's a big part of why some of these sites are acting to change their policies. It's also a rule here and accounts have been shut down for it. Using an occasional image to punctuate a post or make a point is one thing. Making it almost your sole method in tens of thousands of posts without providing any other content is quite another.

It does appear that reblogme is now blocking hotlinking. The images I previously posted from there are now broken, and an attempt to click on a text link goes to the log-in page. If I am already logged in to reblogme, it will take me to my reblogme home page instead of to the image I was referencing. It does look like that source has dried up as a source for hotlinking images.

This is similar to what happened with reblogme's predecessor site called bdsmlr; for a couple of years it was an alternative to Tumblr, and it allowed hotlinking, then started blocking it. That is why many folks moved away from bdsmlr to reblogme. Now that channel seems to have closed.

Not sure this will work consistently, but here is an image that I first downloaded to my hard drive from reblogme. Then imported from my hard drive to this post with the 'Attach files' button. Clumsy, but worked this time at least.

^^^ That's uploading a file to Lit's servers as an attachment. That means ALL of Lit's image rules apply which would make many of Mello's posts (and those of several others) subject to removal

Users that were hotlinking from remote servers were skirting many of the rules, which was one of the primary reasons they did it.

Lit doesn't allow attaching copyrighted pics from their server. Lit doesn't have a problem with hotlinking pics and gifs though. People have been doing it for years on Lit with zero problems from the mods.

Links to reblogme dot com seem to be working again, as of today when I happened to try one. Here is an example:

Don't know how long this will be available, time will tell...
